Signal - Not very good

My Incredible has shown me one and two bars for the most part, when idle. When I task it with pulling up data, it occasionally jumps up to 3-4 bars, then returns to the 1-2 bar range.

Now I know 20 people are going to tell me that bar don't matter and to check the -db.

So, I put the phone in field test mode ##33284# if anyone also needs to check the -db

And mine hovers at -95 while I am sitting here at home. My wife's government issued silver BB world phone keeps all its bars while sitting here next to the droid incredible. Unfortunately, I don't remember how to put it in field test mode because it has been so long since I have used such an antiquated device.

Also, is it possible that maintaining only a couple bars, and then flexing to a better signal when needed is a battery saving measure?

This goes completely against everything that I have ever heard, because it is my understanding that when a device has a weak signal, it will continue looking for a better signal, thus draining the battery.

So, today I will be visiting the VZW store. If there is an Incredible on display, I will put it in field test mode, then do the same to mine. If there is a huge discrepancy, I will have to push for a trade to a phone that doesn't have a defect in the reception.

Out of all the thousands of Incredibles manufactured, you know there has to be a couple rotten apples in the barrel. Especially for us early adopters.

Just wondering, but why are u putting it in field test to check db levels?

thanks to this thread i know im not crazy, lol i just made the switch form CB to AC and to the Droid incredible, and i noticed the signal was a lot worse then my storm, but now i know its just a glitch in the bars and not the act signal, i hope the phone cares more about the db then the bars when going into search mode to find better signal, hopefully a minor patch will be updated soon

is anyone NOT in North Carolina experiencing rebooting when they move to an area with low or no coverage? i.e. elevator, basement, etc.

In my experience this past 24 hours, my Incredible has been superior to the Droid in regards to signal strengtlh. Even in my parking garage I was getting text messages on the Inc which never happened on my Droid.

I came here to post this. I'm 2 levels under ground at work, and I get service. I have like others noticed the bars very erratic and dipping to 1 bar, but service doesn't feel like it's affected in the least.

This phone freakin rocks.
Can't wait for extended batteries....

Follow the rebooting issue in another forum, and on Verizon's Android forums (community.vzw.com/t5/Android-Devices/bd-p/Android_Devices).

Appears to be an issue in central NC relating to old Alltel towers, and not with the phone itself.
