Signal Strength concerns

I want to preface this post by mentioning my bedroom is in the basement of a 40-year-old house; area code 48095; outside Metro Detroit.

Lately (last couple of weeks, I would say) my signal has been very spotty. I spend more time in 1x than 3g and when I do have 3g, it's usually zero or one bar.

I believe I had a decent signal running KB 1.3 on my EC10 radio, OTB 1.4. I have since upgraded to UKB 2.0, ED03, OTB 1.6 and I am dissatisfied with my signal. I don't want to blame anything in particular, since I don't really know much about it. Plus, I know going through so many changes recently it would likely be difficult to pin point what, exactly, may have caused my issue.

I data/cache/dalvik wiped three times, before and after upgrading to UKB 2.0. I've done an ESN swap (on my old, non-3g phone, if that makes a difference) and I've done *228 option 1 and 2 a couple of times. I've never had very good reception in my house, even out in the yard, but I feel it's been getting worse.

What are my options?

I'm going to guess and say the problem is that you live in Detroit =) j/k

Verizon is having problems with their 3G at the moment, it's kinda an ongoing issue

Google searched, and it appears people everywhere across many different handsets and devices are having similar problems with data/call outages. Of course, VZW is too prideful to admit it.

If your convinced it's the ROM, flash back to stock DL09 and re-up your PRL and see if the same problem exists.

If so, then it's not UKB. If not, then there could be something wrong with the ROM.

LW, what's the PRL?

I would imagine, then, that it's just VZW being a bunch of jagalooms.

If I get too worried, I'll Odin to stock and give it a run. Thanks for the help, gentlemen.

PRL = Preferred Roaming List, or basically the list of towers your phone is capable of roaming on. As new towers become available, you can add them to the list by doing the *228 option 2 to increase your signal. New towers are not added all the time, so there's no need to do this all the time. Every couple of months won't hurt though.

Gotcha, Shark.

I think I want to go back to EC01 from ED03. Can I just CWM flash the radio right over the top? That would be neat. I'm currently with CWM 3.2.XX and it yelled at me about amend scripting and such again. To clarify, that means I need to use CWM 2.5.x.x to get it working, correct? And I have to Odin that file?

my wife is having issues with her iphone (insert joke) and I have been going in and out of 1x/ 3g for the past two days in pa and nj.

That being said, NEVER look at the bars. That is just a graphic that has nothing to do with signal strength since everything is digital not analog.
You either have service or you don't with phones for the past few years.

You need to go into your options and you will see a number like -90, -86, etc. the closer you are to 0, the better the signal, so -80 is better then -90.

As I sit, I'm currently at -106. -101 if I shift my head.

That's why I want to flash back to EC01, see if that helps. Gotta Odin CWM 2.5 to flash the radio then reflash CWM 3.2

My phone talks to computers.

No need to do that if you haven't already. Look in JaeKar99's Themes thread. There is an ODIN flashable EC01 modem. You can just flash the modem in ODIN and keep your current CWM

Killer.

On the drive home, signal was between -86 and -96 with a couple of spikes to -101. In my home, still lives between 101 and 106.

After ODINing EC01 again, it's not terribly different, but I guess I'll give it a run and see how it plays. Does there need to be a wipe after flashing this guy?

No wipe needed. You flash in ODIN. Anytime you flash in ODIN the package does it for you or it's not needed.

Gotcha. Well, thanks for the input. Still not super great, but I guess it's what I've got. I'm moving to Atlanta for the summer and I always get good service down there, so whatever.

Ok, well good luck down there. Stay cool in the heat.
