Signal strength in Europe vs USA

I was just in France and Switzerland using my S7 from Verizon. I was amazed at how strong the signals were everywhere, even inside large buildings - hotels, on a river boat, on a 7,000 feet mountain and on the train.

I do use WiFi calling due to the bad signal here. But, in my house, I only get one bar, if that, with LTE.

Anyone know why there is so much of a difference?

Were you running on gsm signal at home or cdma? Try the other LTE type at home and see if it makes a difference.

I have tried both GSM and CDMA. I recently went to the Verizon store with my question and was told the City has imposed restrictions on the amount of power used by cell providers. What a bummer. I am now petitioning the City to change same.

Sounds like the store employee is making excuses for Verizon.

If the city is the "problem" it's more likely they have a NIMBY attitude towards cellular transmitters.

I find it surprising since many municipalities rely on cellular for primary/backup communication for first responders.

Your city likely has a radio department that's typically part of building and zoning. Check with them to learn more about what's really happening.
