Signal strength issues

I purchased a D2G from Amazon for free as I entered into a 2 yr with VZW, but I had a question.
I have decided to return the device to Amazon (had it only a week), but before I officially hand it over to Amazon and ship it back, I had a question.
I had an X which was lost in a cab (more like stolen, but that is a long story), and I was on a month to month (this is why I need to make a decsion fast, so I can get out of my 2 yr. if need be). Anyway, in my apt. I could get a signal with my DX, and a friend of mine could get one on her DInc, but my signal strength with the Global is poor to nothing.
I really hate to give it up, the only other weakness I see is a cannot find a decent case. I bought a $10 one on ebay which was crap cut outs were all wrong, maybe Otterbox would've been better, but is there a reason why the Global can't get a signal while the DX and Incredible can?
I've updated the OS, I was thinking of getting a T-Bolt after sending this back, but I wonder if should maybe go with a Galaxy S.
If anyone has a suggestion, please let me know.

All I can say is I had read a detailed comparison report between the D2 (the model right before the international "global" version came out) and the Droid X. In the report they tried the two at various points around their city and said there were little to no differences in signal strength between the two. Now, I know the X has two antenna's built in - at least that's what I've read. But their field test showed no significant signal strength differences.

Thanks for the info. I moved it to a table in another area of my apt. and now I get 3G. I like the D2G, I might just keep it.

Well,, I couldn't get a decent signal to save my life. Battery drain was an issue made more so as I couldn't get a signal which drained the battery further. I dropped four calls all within one morning, I sent it back a few days before my 14th day cutoff.
Now, I am back on a month to month and need to decide what device I will choose, back to my prepaid phone in the meantime.
