Signs of a dying battery?

Lately the battery life on my captivate has gone down a decent amount. I am not a heavy user, so I can usually get a full day out of it. But lately I am killing the battery by the time i get out of work, so about 9 hours. Then when I am charging it, it seems to take longer to charge. Also when I am using the phone, and when charging it, it seems to be getting a lot hotter then it used it. And the heat seems to be coming through the screen more then the back case. Like right now my phone is charging and I went to play tapfish for a few minutes and the phone got hot enough that it got uncomfortable and I had to put it down.

Does this sound like the battery is going, or could there be something else wrong with the phone?

Are you using a custom rom? I had a custom rom and would get around 9 hours per charge. Then i flashed back to stock, upgraded to froyo and can get around 28 hours with moderate use. Like right now it is 9pm. Unplugged the phone at 330am. Battery still has 56% left. Thats my .02

If the heat is getting uncomfortable, it's not normal. I would guess the battery is going, but it might be a phone issue. Just replace the battery and make sure it goes back to normal.

Check your apps

Strangely enough I had Juice Defender running before the froyo upgrade and had battery life issues after the upgrade. I then checked my running apps and found that Juice Defender was checking status every 5 minutes.

I removed JD and have been fine ever since. Check your apps that run in the background for feeds or other info. It makes a big difference.

As someone else already said, if your cappy is warm all the time, something is using up your battery.
