Silence mode Nexus 5

Hello everyone,

I thought I liked the new Lollipop update until I came across of the silence settings. I really want to have the phone on silence at all times but the LED notification light doesn't light up. Even if it is on priority, Whatsapp still makes the sound. I went on App permissions and disabled everything but nothing, LED still not coming up (and it is turned on) and Whatsapp still using a tone. Hangouts seems to be silence except for the fact that there is no LED as well.

I am curious if the LED is getting phased out of the ROM. That may be part of the issue.

I have noticed how in apps like Whatsapp, I have to change the ringtone to "None" in order for it to not sound however, if I switch the phone to sound, Whatsapp won't sound because it doesn't have a ringtone. Previously on KitKat, you were able to have a tone and when you have it on silence nothing would sound and the LED will show up. Any solution to this?

That may be the case. Google may intend to replace LED with Ambient Display.
