Android Central Question

I accidentally put my old Sim card from another carrier into my new phone. I also went through wizard setting it up. Once I realized my mistake I took the old Sim card out and factory reset my phone.
Then I put the new Sim card into the phone and it recognizes that there is a Sim card but it won't activate my service. I have no data and can't make calls or text. The phone also restarted with the old carriers start up screen.

It's a Samsung S8. The phone and sim card were bought through the new carrier and so are compatible. It's going from Verizon to Visible. I don't know what I'm saying about it being network-locked. I didn't think it could do that and hope it didn't. I just wondered if it's not working because I had put the old Verizon sim card into the phone and then went through the entire set up. It starts up with Verizon screen. I rest to factory settings and put the correct sim card in ... yet it's still starting up with Verizon screen and won't give me any data or calls/texts.

Welcome to Android Central! Try asking Verizon if they have to carrier unlock the phone after you initially placed the Verizon SIM in there.

Have you checked phone settings then connection see if data enabled and that APN is checked on?

Fixed it!!
I have been trying to figure this out since last night and was panicking a bit as I need my phone for work and school. I finally asked on this forum ... and then figured it out unexpectedly. Such a hassle but so glad it's working now!
Thank you all who replied and tried to help!

So I had previously tried updating the System Settings and it said it could not authenticate my phone. Well then I tried again and it started a download to update the System Settings.
At start up it gave a message saying the sim card had changed and it would need to restart (again). This time the old carrier screen did not show up at start up. Yay! I then reset the wifi and bluetooth settings (not sure if it was needed) ... and then I had data and could make calls/texts with the new carrier. So pretty sure it was just needing the System Update after adding the new Sim Card.

Glad you figured it
Thanks for updating us.
