SIM card stuck on the phone (HTC One M9)

Hi! I recently bought the HTC One M9, and it seems I have encountered an issue.

When it arrived, my older brother was the only one at home, so I guess he must have felt the need to set it up for me -.-

The genius didn't know the difference between micro sim and nano sim, and he put the sim card in the micro sim slot. Without the little tray thing. To make things worse, he PUSHED it down, and to my dismay when I got home, it was stuck.

How can I take it out? I've been trying for about an hour to no avail. Is there any way I can pry open the phone and take it out like that? Warranty voiding isn't an issue.

Thanks!

Re: SIM card stuck on the phone (HTC One M9)

My wife did something similar to our tablet... basically I got a small thin stiff wire (much like a push pin) from my shop and used it to shimmy the card out. I rocked it out by going from side to side being careful not to push it back down when I switched sides.

At worst, bring it to your carrier's repair department and ask if they can get it out for you.

The M9 uses a nano sim, not a micro sim. I feel for you, that's a tiny slot to try to pry out something so small.

I don't know if this post is still open, but maybe some people find it useful.
I just got a brand new HTC Desire 626 and I had the same problem. I wanted to start using it so I didn't even pay attention to that damn tray and it's because I am a fking genius. I used micro SIM before and I had no idea. And I have hard time reading guidelines.
So I inserted that card without a tray and I was alarmed when it said there's no SIM card. So I wanted to take it out and back in but well, I couldn't. In guidelines I read about that tray so I panicked. I tried to find a way to take it out but I was afraid I will screw something up. But I had a moment of marvelous genius.

If someone put a nano card without a tray, this is what you need to do:
1. Find a sheet of transparent, thick plastic, it is widely used as covers for documents etc. It looks like this
teczka_wiazana_pcv_kolor_biurfol''.jpg Make sure it's hard, not soft, soft won't help you. There are two kinds of that plastic and you must get hard one.
2. Cut two strips, they must be as wide as a nano card and 5-6 cm long (so you can grab them)
3. Carefully place two strips under and over a stuck card, make sure you don't pry too hard to not to break something inside the slot
4. Try to remove the card with strips of plastic, I succeeded after first try. It's because a card with two plastic strips under and over is thicker so you can take it out.
5. Be very careful because it's my own, homemade idea, I was desperate but it helped. I felt like a ******* genius after that so I decided to share it with other (accidental or not) blockheads. So, people, read the guidelines. I just learned that. If you have problems with understanding my instructions, ask me.

I hope it helps.

Thanks a ton Rusofil!

Same thin happened with my Samsung Galaxy Note 5..and I used ur technique of plastic strips and it worked like magic ;D

Aldough I used just one strip which I inserted deep enough and then pulled at right angle...

Thanks again :D

Similar thing happened to me - stuck my micro sim into my new Pixel. Self inflicted wound.

I tried to use rusofil's solution above. Even came up with a better thin plastic material. You can use the plastic file folder tabs for hanging files, and cut to fit. Unfortunately, on the pixel the edge of the micro sim got behind a lip on the front edge of the phone, so I could not get the plastic behind there. kusumitha's method of just using one plastic didn't work, because it just pulled the sim card tighter behind the lip when pulled at 90 degrees.

So, the winning system was using a couple safety pins bent open, and VERY patiently working it out of the slot. It took about 20 minutes. I didn't use both safety pins at once. One was larger, and one was smaller.

Ok - off to get a nano sim.
