Plus note that the microphone on the Moto X is in the front of the phone, so if you do it the way you do it your voice will be muffled.

There is also one in the back. When I use "OK Google Now" to call my wife as I'm driving I have the phone face down on the seat beside me. She hears me perfectly well.

No offense, but it sounds like the volume wasn't up. The speaker on the Moto X is incredibly loud and it gets even louder bouncing against a hard surface with the phone screen facing up due to the curve back. iTard speakers can't come close to rivaling Motorola hardware. They never have and never will. Motorola and RIM own the telephony and speaker departments.

I would have to agree with this. The OG X's speaker is really loud. Whether it's ringing or I have 'Ok, Google's' voice talking, I can usually hear it through most of the house. As a matter of fact, when I'm in a public place, I usually have to turn it down so I don't annoy anyone with my ring etc. I've never heard the M8 speakers so I can't really say how good they are or not but I can say that the X's speaker more than loud enough no matter where it sits. I would also elaborate that when you have the phone on it's back and on a hard surface, the sound reflects that surface, which usually makes it louder and sometimes clearer. Lynette Kay, it's unfortunate what you and your mom had to go through. I would just verify that the settings are correct. And you never clarified what Motorola phone it was either.

The speaker on the Moto X is louder and clearer than the iPhone speaker hands down. I went from the iPhone to a Galaxy S4, then to the Moto X. The speaker on the moto x is louder than both of those phones. I could barely hear the ring on the GS4 and iPhone in the shop I work in. That was with them all the way up. Now I only have to keep the Moto X at about half volume in the shop.
