Hello everyone I currently have a pixel XL and was initially super excited to be getting the new pixel 2 xl but after seeing all the issues it has been having .. specifically the ones related to the screen burn in, random reboots, touch sensitivity and other screen issues it has me seriously second guessing. Would those of you that currently own the phone or are more educated on the matter say these issues are enough to recommend skipping this year's pixel or not ?!?!?

Thanks guys

All the screen issues with the exception of the sensitivity have all been addressed. No more premature burn in because now they have auto dimming nav buttons. The sensitivity issue is supposed to be resolved in the next update later this month. If you're looking to upgrade don't second guess it and go for it. It's a great device and the camera is phenomenal.

The only screen issues I've noticed are the blue tint with viewing angle shift (which is minimal and not a practical problem) and overemphasized shadows when the brightness is decreased to <50%. Colors look fine, and I see no graininess nor burn-in. The phone has been great for me, with the best camera experience in the business, and exceptional battery life.

That being said, the Pixel XL is still no slouch, so if you're really on the fence, it'd probably be fine to wait another year, assuming Google plans on a Pixel 3 around the same time.

If you wanna upgrade, go for it. If your happy and wanna wait, that's fine too.

The issues, I believe, were blown out of proportion in an attempt to get more site traffic. Haven't heard of random reboots though. I encourage everyone with a question to get it, try it themselves, MAKE UP THEIR OWN MIND, and if you don't like it, return it within the return window.

It's also worth pointing out that Google increased the warranty from 1 year to 2 years (in the US), which is pretty much unheard of. So if an issue crops up, you don't even have to worry about a return window -- you could contact Google for warranty repair or replacement for up to 2 years.

I've had my 2 XL for 3 days now. Like you, I was concerned with those reports. I have none of those issues except the blue tint. Like others have said it's really nothing to worry about. Yeah, out of the box I was tilting it this way and that, checking out the severity of the blue shift. I kind of shrugged my shoulders, thought "that kinda sucks but it's nowhere near as bad as has been described" and continued on my way getting acquainted with the best phone currently available.

Blue tint scarcely crosses my mind except for when I read this forum. LOL.

I haven't had a single random reboot. As for the screen, the November update, which gives the "Saturated colors" option fixed how the screen looks for the most part. The blue tint doesn't really bother me since I don't use my phone at weird angles.

I'm not experiencing any of those issues. Unless, of course, you count the blue hue of the screen when viewed at an angle as an issue (I don't; in fact, I think it looks pretty). I've only had the pixel 2 for two weeks, but so far, it's been all around awesome.

I've had mine for a month, and I've been more than happy with this phone (coming from the Nexus 6P). Much of the issues that was been discussed have been fixed or are overblown. Since you have a Pixel XL, it's still a solid phone IMO, and you're going to be getting the same "look" as the Pixel 2/2 XL with Android 8.1. For me anyways, the jump from my 6P to P2XL is bigger than going from OP Pixel XL to Pixel 2 XL. It's up to you though...if you think you can make that move, go for it!

Never had a random reboot...The burn in is absolutely real and it's too late for their update to fix it...the bottom buttons burned in in a week , the top notifacation bar icons have burned in after a month. Makes no difference to me as the are close to invisible.

To me the phone is stellar and I am enjoying the heck out of it.

Hello!

It is true that there has been a lot of negative press about the Pixel 2 XL of late. While I am not making excuses for Google, every phone manufacturer has a unique glip or glitch or even a problem here and there that causes it to make the news. We've seen it happen with Samsung, LG, Apple, and now I suppose it's Google's turn!

All that being said, there's a sociological phenomenon here that is fascinating but also a little annoying for potential buyers. People are more likely to post negative reviews/experiences/reports about products or establishments than they are to post praise reports; which makes the number of dissatisfied customers/defective devices seem to be much higher than it is in actuality. Are there defective products? Yes. Dissatisfied customers? For sure. But not on the grand scale that we think we see. Especially since people very often come to forum sites like these to look for help, which would mean they'd be posting about issues with their device.

I think it really all boils down to what you, yourself thinks. If you want the 2 XL, go for it! Test it out in the stores and see how it works and runs. If you like what you see, then that's great! Also, Google is offering a two-year warranty on their Pixel 2 devices, so you really can't go wrong with it. If something happens to it, you're covered!

If it helps, my friend got the 2 XL about three weeks ago and loves it! He says he sees a very minimal blue shift, but only at an extreme angle when he tilts the device a specific way. Do not worry! And, as always, keep us updated on what you decide!

I too was worried about the blue shift, even when I went into the store to look at the phone I was hesitant. I dont see it anymore, simply because, like everyone else, I do not tilt the device while I use it. I do use the phone laying flat on my desk at work and whatever blue tint there is is pretty minimal and doesnt bother me at all.

Is there a blue tint when deviceis shifted? Yes. Will you notice it enough to make you dislike the phone? Most probably not.

Online reviews have made this a bigger deal than it is.

I havent had any random reboots or screen burn in either. So im a happy Pixel 2 XL user!

Not easily done for all of us. I live in a town of 40,000 people. We have an AT&T store, T Mobile Store, and Sprint store but no Verizon. Closest place to look at Pixel for me is 3 hours away.

That's unfortunate, I am sorry! But I do understand what you are saying. There are a few phones I wanted to look at/hold in the hand and since that can't happen (either because of my carrier or because they're only sold online), sometimes it makes it more difficult for me to choose.

Is there a fix for the top navigation buttons? Like something to make them hide like the bottom ones?

Definitely recommend purchase. The "issues" are generally acknowledged now as either never having existed or having been completely overblown. I've had 5 units now and no issues with any of them.

No one else has brought it up before , including me. I mean what's the point...So until AC reports it and all the other sites confirm it...Google isn't going to bring it up either, or do anything about it. Unfortunately it's worse than the bottom, you don't need to download a particular background to see it.

If I wasn't out if the country, I would have returned the phone. The software experience is fantastic and the overall experience is very fluid. That being said there are several issues with the phone. I experienced burn in pretty fast after a few weeks with my device it's not bad and I can't really notice it unless I look for it but it shouldn't be happening so quick. The blue tint isn't too bad but does start to happen with a slight tilt of the phone. The top speaker quality is poor. I am not the only one that had experienced this but you experience some distortion on calls if the volume is over 50%
