I am sorry to ask this, but I know it was posted previously and I can't seem to find the thread. One of my main gripes with typing on my Inc. is that half the time when I hit the spacebar to write the next word, it buzzes (haptic feedback) but doesn't actually give the space and then two words are together. I know this is related to the pop-up word suggestions, but did anyone come up with a solution to this REALLY frustrating issue. It really kills the typing experience. Once again, I know this has been discussed, I just can't find it on the forums. Thanks

i've gotten rid of all the haptic feedback and the keyboard seems to be much more responsive. maybe its just an illusion and its all in my head, but i used to have the same problem and now it's gone.

I'll have to give it a try. Having been used to clicking my screen in on my storm, I needed some feedback from the keyboard, but this spacebar issue is maddening.

I, too, have a hard time with the spacebar on the Incredible. I've tried it with haptic feedback and with the clicking sounds and the symptoms persist: The sound of a space (or the haptic feedback) occurs, but no space is inserted. I may turn off all feedback as suggested and see if that makes a difference.

Is this a multi-touch issue? It seems I might be touching the spacebar too quickly (near-simultaneously) and the keyboad ignores the input? Has anyone had luck with the new multi-touch keyboard out there?

that's part of the issue that it is not multi-touch, which really slows down typing since you have to space apart the timing of your fingers when typing.
i wish the space key was a bit bigger. often i hit the B or other letters around it by accident too.
the iphone had multi-touch even before 4.0 and it is easier to type on that.

Menu -> Settings -> Language and Keyboard -> Touch Input -> Text Input -> Calibration Tool

Run that and type as you normally would so the phone can adapt to your typing style... That may help the issue... Even if it doesn't, it's a good starting point and rules out one possible problem.

Edit: Oh, and Swype FTW!

Just wondering if anyone here found any other solution. I've had my Droid Inc since the day it was released, and I just now started having this spacebar problem for the first time.

I press the spacebar several times - I get the haptic feedback but the space is not inserted into whatever I'm typing. This happens even when the phone is not suggesting a word (pop-up windows).

I tried calibrating & even reset the calibration to factory settings. No improvement.

If no one has any awesome solutions, I'll have to do a factory reset. :-\

Thank you.

I have a better solution for you. I've been mega-frustrated over not being able to type quickly on my Incredible (had it over a year now), plus similar issues with sometimes responsive/laggy space bars, and have literally tried every single free and paid keyboard and swipe-type keyboard out there.

Finally did a google search for fastest android keyboard and discovered on XDA developers site a modded version of the original HTC keyboard that is far any away the most responsive and quickest keyboard around and has made typing in portrait easy and accurate again (including the space bar, which has been an issue with most every keyboard i've tried).

It's called HTC IME mod. The link to find the download (hi res version) is here:
[MOD] HTC_IME (8th June) v27: Small fix - xda-developers

I've kept haptic feedback off as I've also found that seems to lag most keyboards a bit, but I've kept typing clicking sound on, and it works unbelievably well - feels like i have a brand new super responsive phone!!

Gotta try it...

Hope this helps!

Thank you, jmk! :)

I got tired of the problem last night; so, I did a full factory reset. Solved the problem, fortunately. However, I will bookmark your solution in case the problem comes back.

Much appreciated!
