Skype Issues?

I received my nexus 7 yesterday and attempted a video skype call. The quality was so bad as to render both parties unrecognizable and since we've been married for over 40 years that seemed a bit strange. I downloaded the camera app this morning and it took a very respectable pic. Since the other device was used for a skype video call to a Mac and looked fine, it seems that it must be something about skype on this device - and yes, I know that it isn't skype certified yet. I also heard on one of the podcasts that this was an issue. Has anyone else tried a Skype video call? Results? Suggestions? :(

I had a similar issue, along with the video being flipped on my end when portrait lock is enabled.

I'm also having issues with Skype staying logged in, after a while it randomly logs itself out.

Also experiencing Skype video problems. The video I see is quite good. But other parties say the video from the Nexus 7 is blurry and horrible.

I had the same experience. Received video was fine but the video that was sent was unacceptable.

I had a similar issue as well. The video was just ok, but there was no sound at all. The other person could hear me, but I could not hear them. Yes, the volume was up. It's very weird; but when I installed Skype, it did say that it was incompatible with my device (the Nexus 7).

Same exact issues with Skype, not a huge deal though

I handled both problems - to handle the video go to settings of the skype and enable it there.
The problem of the no sound was handled at settings of the nexus under the sound -> Volumes. Play with the sounds there and if will work.

I can't get video to work at all with Skype. I can see the other person but they can't see me at all. We switched to Google+...

The Skype folks need to address this issue and soon... :(

I haven't experienced any problems with Skype and my N7, I have done more than two dozen calls, both national and international video calls with only problems on one location 250 miles away, the incoming video and sound didn't make the call possible, it was the other end tablet sending garbage (not a N7), this same individual had problems calling an international location that I never have problems with.

A Skype update rolled out since this thread was started... I wonder if that resolved the issue? I have not tried to use skype since the update, but it was not fun prior to it, that's for sure.

Actually, the latest Skype update made it worse. Can't get video working at all now.

I tried the latest Skype on my new N7 last night. Picture quality was good and the other person could hear me fine, but I had no sound whatsoever. No sounds for the incoming call, no voice heard. Sounds are turned on and set to max volume but there was nothing. I have spent hours adjusting every setting I can find to no avail.

This is Skype 2.9.0.315 on Android 4.1.1

Further to this, once I had used Skype all sound on the device stopped. Shutting Skype down did not fix it - I had to power it off and then back on again before sound would work again. I then restarted Skype and sounds were still working, but have not tried a Skype phone or video call again yet.

I just tested skype from my N7 to my Laptop. The camera quality from the N7 over skype was awful. Very slow and choppy and barely recognizable. The camera itself was fine when viewing it on either device, i.e. video looked fine and acceptable on my Laptops camera, as well as my N7. But thru Skype its really really bad.

Skype need to get their crap together.

I use Skype to Skype video on my nexus 7 internationally onc ce or twice a day. I do agree that skype for android is buggy but for the most part if there is decent bandwidth, it works okay.

I think I have a bit of an answer for the problems some are having with sound. Skype needs to have the system rebooted after installing it and before using it. Once that it is done it seems to work correctly.

Skype video only works with some other users. The video quality is so bad compared to my notebook that I won't even use the Nexus 7 for video chat. I don't know if it's just a lousy built-in camera, or if the poor video quality is caused by Skype.

Talk only is okay.

I like to remain "invisible" but when Skype starts on my tablet, it switches to "online" on both my tablet and notebook!

When I turn the Nexus 7 completely off, I have to manually load Skype when it's restarted, even though the "Sign in automatically" and "Never go offline" settings are enabled. Before a recent update, Skype would close down whenever the tablet went to sleep.

The absolutely worst thing is that the text field is one line and it's near impossible to read what you've typed to see if there are any typos. There is no scroll bar and scrolling with your finger is difficult, if not impossible.

I'll stick with Skype for a while and hope the developers make the mobile version work as good on the tablet as their program works on our notebooks.

I am using Skype on my Nexus 7, and I cannot see or hear the other person at all on a video. I can see myself. I wanted to talk with my fiancee but it wasn't working what do I need to do to resolve the issue?

She can hear and see me, but not the other way around.
