Skype on Zio

I'm new to the Android world but not to the tech world. I'm a voice/data field engineer and just last week got a Zio (by choice) as a Nextel replacement. It was a free phone.
I've rooted successfully and installed a dozen or so apps with 0 issues. Except for the dang Skype app.
Anyone here got it working?
I'm running OS 2.2 (Froyo right?) and Ive removed and reinstalled Skype 3 times. It crashes during sign-in and sends me back to the home screen.
My pw is correct and to troubleshoot & be sure I've gone and changed it on my PC and nothing.
It's driving me nuts! Please throw me some ideas & suggestions guys n gals. Thank you!

I have a friend that is experiencing this same issue~not rooted. It just cycles back to the home screen. I tried putting in a ticket with Skype but was unsuccessful. Maybe you can try contacting them as well.

From what I read and heard is that if you're not with Verizon, Skype won't help you :-/
