skype replacement (video and sms)

skype is completely useless on the samsung tab 2 7, whether on Wifi or 4g (Verizon). I have never managed to initiate a working video connection.

so now I need a clean android app to send and receive SMS's (not the weird Go SMS).

And I need a clean app to video chat with Macs, Windows, and iPhones. I can't find Google Video Chat. Does it exist? (Maybe OoVoo? I can live without a linux client, although I would much prefer having one.)

Any recommendations?

Lack of a solid skype is almost a deal-breaker. I can recommend lots about the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, except that skype is a must-have app for a tablet these days. Google should have bought it, instead of MSFT.

I used google talk once when my wife was in Munich. It was ok with my tab2 and her laptop
