Sleep of death

Dang! I think this just happened to my Photon. Have only had it 4.5hrs. Wifi was off and kid was playing Cut the Rope. He turned it off and it wouldn't come back on. I did a battery pull (had to really wrangle the back off) and it still wouldn't come on. A few minutes later kid picked it up and it came back on and rebooted.

Hope this doesn't happen again!

It seems to be a batt issue. Something to the effect that the batt isn't reporting it's charge correctly to the phone/OS and it's shutting down. When you do a batt pull, it resets and works fine till the query for charge happens and the cycle starts over.

OK so I called sprint store they told me to go to repair shop first. Repair shop told me it's a defective phone to return it to store and get a new one. Store told me that since I already returned one that I would have to bring it to a repair shop and get a refurbished one. I just paid 549 for this phone I told him that I am not going tomorrow return this phone for a refurbished one. He said a update went out the 26th that was pushed out automatically. So my options now are to wait to see if this problem happens again if so I am going tomorrow go get my money back minus the restocking fee and buy a blackberry. Makes no sense to me that a phone that's messed up can't be replaced. Especially when I am in my 30 days or not. Even if it is the second one

You went to Sprint corporate store right? I was told by retentions that the norm is 3 exchanges for the same phone if there is a problem/defect. If just exchanging because you want to to a different phone, there is a $35 restock fee. After exchanging/returning 3rd phone, you have the option to either get your money back/credit on account or buy a completely different phone but this can only be done at a corporate store, not a 3rd party store.

Regardless though, if they won't exchange it since it is within your 30 days, while in front of the jerk, call sprint CS and ask for retensions. You will get a new phone and if your nice, you might get some type of service credit for your trouble. Then flip the guy a bird as you walk out with a new phone.

Yeah I went to a sprint coperate store. I am exchanging cause this phone is defective. I just spoke to sprint and they told me that I can return the phone as many times as i want within my 30 days if there is something wrong with it. They also gave me a order phone number and they would give me to get a new phone. So I am going to wait until tomorrow and test out the phone if there is still a problem I will just get my money back and buy a blackberry. Getting sick and tired of having to go in and out of stores and telling me wrong information. If its not fixed , which im sure it wont be, then tomorrow after wrk going to get a blackberry. Sucks though I liked this phone I just dont want to get another replacement and then have the new phone have the same problem. THe cs rep also notated the account and stuff for me but we will see what happens tomorrow.

So far so good but I won't know til monday for sure
I feel like this has something to do with the phone overheating, because every time this has happened to me (Which is a bunch), my phone was always warm.

One scenario is when I leave my phone in the center console of my car (shaded) when I work out in the afternoons and, almost without fail, a battery pull is needed when I return.

Another is I'll feel the phone get warm in my pocket after charging on the car dock (like when I enter a store) and when I checked it, quite often it needs a battery pull as well.

Never had these issues with my EVO.

I had the sleep of death happen to me today, twice. Both times I was
  1. Roaming
  2. Playing Sudoku Free
Haven't ever had this happen before.

Got my Photon on the 10th. Never had the sleep of death, rebooting or really any other issues until the update last week. I never did have the silent call issue and still don't. But since this past Saturday, I have now had the sleep of death three times, two random reboots while using the phone, and yesterday morning I woke to a phone with half the icons missing (it was not hooked to a computer or even a charger. Just sat on my desk turned on all night the night before). My return widow ends in a little over a week. Hate to do it because when this phone works, it is the best I have ever had. But I just don't trust it anymore. Switching it out while I can for the EVO 3D even if I have to pay a $35 restocking fee. No promises that the EVO won't have issues as well, but the Photons issues are to big to be stuck with.

I also noticed the phone was doing this while it was warm. I am wondering if the phone is trying to conserve power by shutting itself off. I was taking pictures when Sleep of Death occured. This is an utter disappointment. My 30 days are over on Sept. 14th hopefully just in time to trade to the GalaxyS 2. (Sprint release Sept. 8th?) Its been around for a while around the world so I'm certain the glitches have been worked out of the phone.

So this happened to me last week when I went to this restaraunt near my office. I noticed that I get very little reception and when I wnt again today, the same thing happened. I'm thinking it might have something to do with very poor reception and roaming since when I was looking at my phone, it happened shortly after the romaing triangle appeared. Also, my 30 days was up on Sunday.
