Slow Captivate needs a boost!

Hey there, I'm rockin' the Samsung Captivate and I've had it since Christmas now, and it seems to be slowing down a little bit. I AM addicted to downloading new apps and customizing my homescreens every 10 minutes, but I frequently clean out the apps that I don't often use. I have gone through and deleted a lot of useless files as well, but there are a few that I am completely unfamiliar with, and I'm paranoid to delete them because I'm afraid that it may be something important. I'm currently using LauncherPro as my default home, and I don't have an excess of widgets on my homescreens. Does anybody have any suggestions that may speed up my device?

The quickest solution would be to do a factory reset and start over. That should wipe out anything extra that's slowing it down. You could also root and install a custom ROM or kernel, which would be most effective, but might not be for you.

If neither of these are appealing to you, you can download System Panel from the Market, and take a look at what apps are using the most resources. If there's something using more than it should, you can get rid of it and see if it helps. Also, make sure you deleted all the widgets off of Touchwiz, because they'll still be syncing if they're there.

The more apps you have, the slower things will go. Especially when browsing the app drawer. The most common cause of this, is not really a "problem", but a symptom of the file system used by the phone. The default factory setting is a tad slow, though reliable and battery conserving. Voodoo lagfix (or similar if you go custom) is probably the medicine you seek, though it does require root to use.

If you plan on rooting, or already are rooted, a custom ROM is a more complete solution than just voodoo lagfix.

If you do not want to root, I would go through your app list with a fine toothed comb, and remove those apps that are redundant, or not used.
