Slow Loading (faster battery drain, performance gone) Note5 6.0.1

Ever since I took the 6.0.1 marshmallow OTA update.. my phone has been "unstable". At first I loved it it was quick, battery lasted longer... now it's the total opposite.

WIFI is slow to load and always throws up errors and loads the page a second after the page throws the error up.

APPS

Apps like facebook chrome and Instagram don't load after the phone is woken up out of sleep mode. (Example picking the phone back up after 10 or so minutes of idle.)

This requires me to shut down every app and restart them to for them to load and repeat this process over and over.

(Usually Facebook shows "cannot connect right now")

And Instagram won't load anything unless it's shutdown and restarted.

Overall browsing speed of apps has gone down hill also, it takes forever for pictures and videos to load on FB or chrome and sometimes won't load at all.

WiFi connection is stable verified with 200+ Mbps down and 25 up connected to a netgear night hawk router.

Cleared cache multiple times
Reset network settings
Deleted said apps and redownloaded them
Reset settings
Wiped cache partition
Phone still has 32GB left of storage

I'm at lost, I'm ready to downgrade back to lollipop that's how frustrated I am lol.

Any reasons why performance has just took a dump?

Thanks in advance.

Some versions of 6.0.1 have a known wifi problem, and your problems all seem related to that. Either downgrade or wait until the next update.

I've been running the latest version of 6.0.1 posted yesterday last night and all day today and it's been a treat. Very fast and stable. I've been putting it to the test all day today running lots of apps, games, browsing the web as well as texting and phone calls and it hasn't so much as hiccuped once. Very smooth. They must have taken notice to how fast the fingerprint sensor worked on the iphone 6s and made software adjustments because mine is just as fast on both now as well.

After updating to Mashmallow this morning, I noticed a battery drain/reduced battery life. I'm sort of surprised since this update claims to improve battery life. I'm very new to the android system-only had my NOte 5 for a few weeks. I"ve emptied cache, updated apps and I don't use many to begin with. I'm leery about a factory reset--to me, an update shouldn't force us to restore it.
When I check the usage of battery, my screen seems to be the issue, but it never was in the past. I have on the power save function, and I don't need a bright screen. So, I'm at a loss.

I do like the functions of marshmallow---but I'm not thrilled with the slow down of my phone/battery.
Does this system learn like the blackberry system? The more you use the phone the battery life adapts? My Q10 was awesome that way.

It may take a few days or so for things to settle in. I leave my screen on Auto brightness. The past two mornings I've noticed Google Services with a high stay awake time, and fairly rapid battery drain for 30 minutes or so and then back to a more normal pattern. Could be that some background sync was still completing after I took phone off the charger.

As for a factory reset, I agree that shouldn't be required. I did do a cache wipe after the most recent Verizon update, but have not done a reset. If you do decide to reset, be sure to backup data first.

Thanks. I have my screen on auto as well. I'm noticing a mobile radio is also taking up battery life. I'm figuring that's just the use of the phone as I don't think we have a radio on these devices. So fat, battery life seems ok. A little bit lower than before the update but nothing extreme. I have all apps on optimize so I'm curious to see how the next few days hold up. Thanks for your input trees.

That makes no sense though. An update shouldn't force us to factory reset the device every time. I would think developers would be working on that. So far, knock on wood, my battery life has been ol today. Been using it the same amount of time. I will figure the system will learn and adjust accordingly

I have the exact same problems as you do. I need to know how to downgrade to Lollipop. It's my only hope until a new MM update arrives.

For those with battery drain issues. Try disabling fast charge. I did this and it seems my battery life is much better. Phone still charges quicker than my past phones and I think the fast charge with marshmallow may be the problem. Good luck.

I think the Google Services related drain for me is due to Google Photos not being able to backup for the past three days. Again this morning, phone went from 100% and within a few minutes had dropped to 96%. Further inspection showed that Google Photos was trying to backup, but informed me that it has been unable to do so the past three days. This should be a temporary problem once whatever is preventing the backup from completing is solved.

These issues are likely part of the reason AT&T has waited so long to release MM. Happy to say that after 3 days of using a sideloaded AT&T version of MM I've had no issues and battery has been slightly better than before the update.

I'm leary of sideloading. It messed up my blackberry so I did a factory reset and had my Q10 for 3 yrs. I moved to my note 5 because of the lack of support for bb. I love this note 5. Android takes a bit of getting used to but I am happy. 😊

So for the past 2 or so weeks my battery life went down the toliet.

It went from 12-14 hours on a single 0%-100% charge to 4-5 hours on a single charge.

5 hours estimation on a 100% charge in battery settings.

(Blank phone)

(Also before reset also)

I am using the OEM charger and USB wire.

I just did a full factory reset and no change.

So what's wrong?

Ok one thing that could be affecting your phone is a rogue badly behaving app. Especially when updating to the latest OS some apps just don't play well. It could be that there is an app that isn't playing well with Samsung's version of Marshmallow. Does the Note 5 have safe mode? Maybe try that too see if the battery performs better in that mode. My wife updated her phone and it has been good.
