Slow WiFi Speeds

I am getting slow WiFi speeds compared to other devices at the same distance from the router. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I get the proper speeds when I get closer to my wifi router. But it is odd becuase my upload speeds are fine but my download speeds are about half what they should be.

Is this a hardware limitation due to the metal back or software? Where can we report this directly to Google?

Thanks for any insight!

Confirmed here, exact same findings. Though I am wondering if this thing is just optomized for a specific protocol, seems odd that google never did a speedtest on it. Perhaps it works best on 2.4gh protocol N or something (I'm not going to try every combo though to find out ;) since it hasn't impacted me functionally, yet)

We are within the return period, so I think this should be treated as a support case.

I tried both wireless N and AC with the same results. I didnt really notice anything with my browsing habits though. I just decided to run a speed test and happened to notice that the download speeds were slower than it should be. I think my Note 2014 edition had wifi issues early on as well and it was fied with an update but I cant remember.

Yup. I get about 60mbs down on my Nexus 5X and 15 down on the pixel from the same location at the same time.

I ran both my Nexus 6P and the Pixel C on Speedtest and the results were identical. I am on a 5G N router if that makes a difference.

Figured it out. It is the keyboard. When attached the download speed is degredated. With the keyboard detached the download is comparable to my other devices

What is weird is that my upload speeds are fine. I tried it without the dock and I still get the slow speeds. I think I will try to take it to a public wifi spot and see if I can get good speeds there. My router is not a piece of junk either and all my other devices are fine including the Nexus 6P. Here is my router:

ASUS RT-AC66U Dual-Band Wireless-AC1750 Gigabit Router

If the masses are not having this issue I may have to do an RMA but so far there have been a couple (including people on the Google nexus support forum) having the same issue. forum located here:

https://productforums.google.com/fo...ce=footer#!msg/nexus/CM9tv3pjTfQ/QY0xGoTMAgAJ

I am "atgosu" there.

It is really a shame because I love this device and it is perfect except for this wifi thing :/

Another note: I am getting the same dBm readings on my Nexus 6P and the Pixel C so it seems to be getting the same signal strength (around -67 dBm).

I sent a formal feedback report via "Settings>>Help and Feedback" as the developers will be able to see it and hopefully give some insight.

I ran speedtest again with my keyboard attached and had the same speeds as I did when the keyboard was detached. These speeds are the same as my 6P.

Did you do the speed test far away from the router? Mine is fine in or around the room the wifi router is in. Once I go up or down a floor the speed slows down considerably compared to all my other devices. Just the download speeds are bad. The upload speed is fine. I'm starting to wonder if I need to RMA mine. :(

I did a second test away from my router (on a different floor) The 6p was faster this time. The 6p was 25 up/20 down, while the Pixel C was only 10 up and 10 down.

I'm wondering if everyone's Pixel C is like this or just some. If its all or most I hope a software update fixes it. Seriously considering a replacement but not sure yet. I currently get less than half of the speed I should be getting and I am not really that far away from my router.

Edit: I contacted Google Support and they are sending me a replacement but I'm not so sure if that will fix the problem. I just couldn't take the sometimes 2-3 mbps (at best 10mbps) download speed when my Nexus 6P is pulling 28mbps download sitting right next to it.

I know you will - but keep us updated. I really wanted to order this tablet, but I've held off after hearing about this issue. Don't know how widespread it is at this point, but I'd prefer to ride it out for now to see what may or may not come of it.

At this point that is a smart move because there are others verifying the same issue on various forums. I will definitely give updates on this. There are not too many people (expectedly) out there with the Pixel C. I'm just raising my voice as loud as I can so it gets fixed because I really love everything else about this tablet.

Here is what I have done so far:

1.) Android Central and XDA forum posts
2.) Settings->3 dots @ top right->help & feedback->Send feedback (this apparently gets sent directly to the developers)
3.) Nexus Support forum post (https://productforums.google.com/forum/m/#!topic/nexus/CM9tv3pjTfQ;context-place=forum/nexus)
4.) Google Support Chat (they issued a replacement)
5.) Benson Leung Google+ reply (https://plus.google.com/+BensonLeung/posts)

If you are seeing the same issue please send feedback in whatever way you are willing. There are not many of us out here so anything helps! :D

My replacement comes in about a week and I will def report on that. I am not sure if that will fix anything. Unless there are people out there with great ones that think I am going crazy. Let me know!

Odd question buy can you attach the Pixel to the keyboard top side down? I don't know if the magnets are too strong and the wireless card is on the bottom that's causing an issue? Just a non-software postulation, hopefully it's the same since that's a more serious flaw.

I have tested with and without the keyboard attached. Even far away from the keyboard with Bluetooth off just in case. Same results. Its not the keyboard causing it.

I'll poke around some more, but here's some quick testing I did in the office. Not seeing anything stand out at me with these unscientific tests:

I live out in the sticks, so I don't have traditional broadband. I have unlimited data on Verizon and use one of my old phones as a hotspot. The speeds I get on my pixel c are the same as I get on my laptop. I get about 18 - 25 down and 8 to 12 up. I get a pretty good Verizon signal here I usually have 3 bars. That speed is the same that I get on my Nexus 10 also. I've tried it close and far away from my hot spot and the speeds seem to be consistent.

(I attempted to edit on my tablet and this post got deleted somehow)

Thank you so much for testing!!! :D Google is shipping me a replacement (2 day) so I should have sanother one for testing soon.

If you don't mine me asking, were you far from the router of somewhat close? Only seems to happen when it goes through a couple walls where as my Nexus 6P does not have that problem. Also I am only really 25-30 feet away from my router "as the crow flies".

Thank you again for your time and effort. I really appreciate it!

How far away do you think you are from your router? How big is your house? I'm just wondering if I would even notice. My router is in the living room, which is the center of my house (split floor plan - kids rooms on one end, master on the other - roughly 1850 sq ft). I could never conceivably be that far away from the router, I guess through a couple of walls when I would be using it in the bedroom, but that's about it.
