Slowest phone launch in awhile?

I have been urging my wife to wait for the Galaxy Nexus just so she could compare the two. Now that the battery in her old BB Tour won't hold a charge I think she is going to get the iPhone 4s this weekend. Oh well, I tried.

Divorce might be your best option in this situation.

the Samsung Fascinate was an extremely slow launch.. I remember waiting forever for them to even announce a release date. And it couldnt of been because they were trying to push "bloat" phones at the time.. because my fascinate is plenty bloated and bing'd.

So maybe this isnt all evil Verizon's fault?

You've made the point several time that you don't think it's all Verizon's fault. I get it. None of your comparisons really work with the Galaxy Nexus. It seems clear Verizon isn't interested (Friday Press Release?) in pushing this phone. It's clear because they have more invested in other phones. VZW is making what they think is a prudent business decision.

Yeah, I'm not really seeing how this is a slow launch. They just unveiled the phone a few weeks ago.

If they phone comes out after Thanksgiving (which looks like the best guess right now) wouldn't you consider this a slow launch? That's almost a month and a half after the original press event that was delayed a week.

Actually.. I'm comparing a Samsung phone that I dealt with almost identical anguish and wait that you all are going through.. how does that not compare?

and the fact is, alot of people have cried and moaned (over and over and over, yourself included) that it is because Verizon is evil and they wanna force their bloatphones down everyones throat.

I'm simply pointing out this might not be the case.. that infact it might not be other factors including the Manufacturer and Google.

Where is it clear they have more invested in other phones btw? simply because of bloatware? excuse the razr and the rezound for coming out next week... I'm so sorry they are interfering (supposedly) with your choice of phone that has no announced release date.

BTW.. Verizon doesnt need to advertise the phone.. Google is an advertising behomoth and the Nexus is getting like 1000 ads to 1 Razr ad on the net.

I can't account for credibility but just throwing it out there..Steven58 from the Android Forums mentioned it being a supply problem (kind of lines up with what p3droid tweeted yesterday).

I mean we certainly can't rule out a potential component supply shortage being an issue...remember the Droid Incredible?

It makes me wonder if there's some truth when Verizon has said that Samsung hasn't given them a release date. They might not be able to make enough to meet demand. Or perhaps a combination of Verizon pushing it off as far as possible before realizing that the Nexus actually has demand but Samsung is going ahead with a release in other markets because VZW waited too long to accept a release date.

It could potentially explain why all references to "exclusivity" to Verizon were dropped.

Oh how fun is it to speculate based on vague rumors? O:-)

It's getting useless to argue the same thing over and over. If you can't see that Verizon has more invested up in a "Droid" branded phone there's nothing I can say to convince you.

This is Marketing 101 stuff.

Could very well be true.. Verizon could of not realized its potential and missed their original window with the initial supply being moved to the international launch.. and now they could be playing catchup with Samsung trying to get their own launch and supply figured out. (although they arent the same phone.. so I'm not talking about the actual Verizon phones being swapped out.. Im talking about which phones were manufacturered first.)

@Nemov: Yes the Droid brand probably does mean more to Verizon. I can agree with that.. I dont agree with the assumption that the Nexus is being sabotaged by Verizon though simply because the Droid brand is that important... and the Rezound is launching without any hiccups so I dont see how that arguement matters anyhow.

Tomorrow is Thursday.. and I'm pretty sure we will know whats up by the end of tomorrow.

the European Nexus and the Verizon Nexus are not the same Nexus, hardware-wise. They can't simply reallocate it like that.

Some of the hardware is shared, like the screen, so specific components could experience shortages. I mean they could already have a first batch of phones ready to go and ship, or already have allocated what they can to each market, but it doesn't mean it won't experience shortages right after release. Perhaps Verizon is looking to beef up their own supply of phones for a release in anticipation of higher demand before actually announcing a release date.

Again, just speculating while we wait around for concrete news.

lol I was just logging on when I realized today was only tuesday to fix that. oh well to late.

@ monkey pi.. I know that.. two different models but I was implying as far as which got produced to a proper supply level first.

if the dicks at VZW don't want the Nexus to compete with their new Droids etc.and they are sandbagging it - then they should not get the phone first. you don't give the exclusive to the dicks at VZW who are going to sabotage the process. WTF is Google thinking? i thought Google was run by a bunch of straight shooters - but i'm getting tired of this guessing game. tells us who and when will have the phone. this is ridiculous.

IMO exclusive deals limit reach. if iPhone was not exclusive with AT&T upon introduction - perhaps many of us here would be using one - once you buy into an ecosystem - it's hard to leave. IMO exclusivity hurts reach. if i am Google i want REACH. i want to get as many Nexus phones out there to the masses of customers and developers asap. i want everyone playing with and using NFC for payments. i want everyone to be using Google mobile search and services. i want developers on all carriers developing for my ecosystem. it would be short sighted for Google to take "exclusive" money from Verizon. Google DOES NOT NEED THE MONEY. rather - they would be wise to FORGO short-term profits and focus on long term profits by getting this phone out there and even FURTHER accelerating their dominance. Google has done a great job so far but as a customer and a business guy i am perplexed as to the exclusivity and opaqueness with this new Nexus. THE WHOLE POINT of the Nexus is DO NOT LET THE CARRIERS CALL THE SHOTS! get the phone out there to everyone asap and the money will follow! Google will collect a pay toll for every transaction! NEVER GIVE TOO MUCH POWER TO ONE CARRIER. GIVE THE NEXUS TO ALL OF THEM AND LET THEM FIGHT AND COMPETE FOR CUSTOMERS!

p.s. i was thinking about this last night. what do you all think of the idea of Google calling this phone the "GooglePhone" rather than "Nexus"?

i ask because i think there is some great potential marketing value with the name "GooglePhone".

Nobody knows if they're "sandbagging" the Nexus. All this BS about delays are nothing but rumors. People have not one bit of evidence that there is a delay in the launch, not to mention that there's not even a damn date to delay yet. They gave us a time frame of 2 months, so I really don't get how it's being delayed. Google gave Verizon the first 4.0 device for the same reason they gave them the first 2.0 and 3.0 devices, because they're the biggest carrier in the U.S. I'm sure they'll get the device out in the time frame that they've gave us in the press release. It'll most likely be out on the 17th I bet but if not then early December.

I'm not sure what is more comical at this point. The people who are at wits end with an apparent delayed device or the people who suggest that's there's nothing to worry about. Both groups are equally going crazy.

Relax people.
