Hello all.

Just having some issues with my Thunderbolt. Nothing horrible.

Lately, my phone has been getting slower and slower. More and more lag. Switching applications? I'm prepared to stare at my unresponsive screen for at least 10 seconds. I could be texting and my keyboard will suddenly stop taking input and then spit out a crap ton of words. Seems to me like my memory may be getting consumed by things I'm not seeing...

I don't do a whole lot on my phone. Just basic Smartphone stuff. I use Friendcaster for my facebook needs since Facebook for Android no longer updates my notifications. I text and have used just about every SMS app on the market because I despise the HTC SMS app. I've settled on GoSMS since it suits me best. I just started using GoKeyboard and didn't see any lag typing for a while, and then it came back... I use Dolphin browser mini to browse the web because I love the tabs and one touch bookmarks.

I do have other apps installed that I use occasionally, like Hanging/ Words with friends, IMDB, PowerAmp, etc, but the above apps are what I use most. I try to keep random unneeded apps off of my phone. I ran Cool Cleaner and App Cache Cleaner to try and free up some memory, but it hardly made a difference.

I've never looked into moving applications to my SD card... I'm not sure if it's necessary or if it'd make a huge difference, but I'd love some suggestions to get my Tbolt back in shape.

My phone is not rooted, and I used the Network app to make it only run in 3G mode.

I have the same problems. I'm always blaming Sense but I really have no idea what the problem is. Sometimes my screen even goes unresponsive indefinitely. When I check running services there are things running I never even use (like facebook) but it appears half of the available memory is free. I don't get it. The only thing that seems to help is a restart.

Had the same problems flashed cm7 oc to 1.8 Ghz I can't slow it down very happy with it when I first got the phone it was very smooth then about 2 months into it got really slow... best thing to do is root its very easy and well worth it and better battery life also even at 1.8 ghz

Well, I've been considering rooting so that I can improve my phone's performance... I'm sort of an improvement addict. I also would love those software upgrades they haven't been pushing for us, lol.

I have a lot to learn about it, and really wouldn't know where to start.

But, does anybody have thoughts on moving things to the SD card? I'm a total noob in that department too and I'm not sure if it'll help my situation or not.

Apps 2 SD was a bandaid for devices not having enough space to download many apps. Things just run slower off the card though. Its a necessary evil for things like lets golf 3 which adds over 800mb of crap to download.

I'd get something like watchdog lite. It monitors running apps and warns you when an app is misbehaving (which it defines as using more than 50 percent of CPU). It also has decent memory monitoring and a manual-only task killer in case you need to take out a runaway app.

I'd avoid moving stuff to SD. That's more for really big apps, not to help with performance per se. If you always have lots of free memory, it's probably CPU that's being hogged.

I see...

So, I guess I'll not move things to my SD card then, since I have plenty of memory.

What would cause my CPU to get momentarily hogged though? Certainly I can correct it, right?
