Sluggish performance, slow I/O?

Over the past few days I have noticed my nexus 7 has been performing sluggishly at times. Boot up times have drastically increased for some reason. The most notable time when it feels slow is when I'm using Chrome or Firefox and trying to load a page or a link. Takes several seconds to load and isn't normal. Internet speed is fine so its not a connection issue as I'm only a few feet from my router. It literally takes ten+ seconds to load pages.

I read about this problem on a thread over at xda forums and it might be due to low disk space. I have 2gb left. Read that running Androbench might show u where the slowness is occurring. Ran it and the random write speeds seemed awfully low, like 14.51 to 75 iops. Don't know how to copy and paste the results, but you can compare results against other devices, even against other Nexus 7's.

So what's being on here? Had my nexus for barely 2 weeks now and already running into problems? Stock flash unrooted too.

yes, its because of the space. keep the remaining space up 3 Gb for now. i heard a fix is coming.

what do you have with you to fill up the 16 Gb?

Mostly games. No music or movies. GTA3, All the madfinger games, Copilot with the midwest map downloaded, just downloaded the batman game which is the biggest yet at 4gb.

Since my last post its getting worse and worse. Cleared all caches, uninstalled games like the batman one. Got nearly 5gb free and it still runs like crap. This is totally unacceptable. Its basically rendered my N7 practically useless. Chrome is crashing, HD widgets take 5+ minutes to load. This is insane.

just reboot!!

I have, several times. Rebooting does not help, nor does freeing up space. Read more about it, freeing up space makes it slightly better but once you experience this problem it wont go away unless you do a reset. Ridiculous.

What is? Me or the problem? I dunno, everything was running fine 2 days ago but since I had the nerve to cross some invisible threshold of space my N7 is getting worse and worse.

I had to do a reset a couple weeks ago due to slowdowns on the order of 10X +.

I have the same problem.? I notice it with flip board. My Sammy note runs so much faster. Only have a little space left.

my flipboard got so slow it was painful. now it runs super-quickly. even the animation of the pulldown when I'd do a refresh, would be obviously slower. deleting emails was a chore, due to the slowdown. everything ran slower. it's been a couple of weeks, IIRC that I did a reset and every single aspect of my n7 is running at full speed.

Guys, goto these links and star the issue:

Google Groups

We need to raise hell and get Googles Attention. Its been almost 3 weeks since someone at Google even responded about looking into the issue, and thus far zippo. That worries me. Apparently this problem isnt unique to the N7, the Asus Transformers had similar problems and were never fixed.

Im about to do a reset. Im so incredibly pissed off right now. First ever tablet, first ever android device. I dont wanna say I made a mistake in getting the N7 as up till now I liked it alot. Google better acknowledge this problem and fix it. I hope this is a software issue and not a hardware one as Im not in the mood to send it back and forth on my own dime. I want what I paid for. If Google/Asus dont fix this fast I dont know what Im gonna do. Bought the N7 at Walmart so in case anything went wrong I could return it. But its been 3 weeks and you can only return items in 15 days or less. I better not be stuck with a $250 paperweight.

Since a reset fixes it, don't you suppose the issue is software? Think McFly, think!

Apparently the 8gb version doesn't have this issue and some 16gb owners report no problems so perhaps it might be a faulty memory controller.

Anyway I reset the N7 and it appears to behave like it did before this issue cropped up. Ran the androbench app and the iosp was 130.15 where before it was 8.68. The androbench app runs in little over a minute compared to the 5-10 minutes before. I installed all my favorite apps and a few small games and have yet to break 12gb, so we'll see how far this lasts. But so far so good.

I read about the issue and then was convinced that I had the problem especially when I ran androbench. However it looks like slow random writes are fairly normal.

No real performance issues however I have had the odd issue where u need to choose and open the lid to get the screen to respond fine again.

Lets try and keep our comments and opinions in check. If you can't respond with a decent/respectful comment then please don't comment at all.

U remind of the "experts" that were sure that the whine in the headphone output of the Bionic had to be hardware. I kept telling them wait and see what happens with the software updates and sure enough the very first update took care of the problem . In other words don't assume anything simply because people have claims that the 8 gigabyte version doesn't have a problem. That in and of itself does not prove that it's a hardware problem.
