Smart Lock is not working

I just did it and its working for me. I do have to swipe up to open but I do not have to use the fingerprint reader or enter my PIN.

This to me is a total non-response from Google. My home has been set in Google Maps for many years and many iterations of Pixels. That is absolutely not the problem in my case, and I suspect that's true for many of the other people complaining about this.

But I do have to say that Smart Lock has definitely been working much better since the mid-month update. I do still have to calibrate the compass occasionally, but apart from that is is much better.

The article reads that you need to essentially reset your home location by changing it and changing it back. I did get the notification from Smart Lock saying my home location changed. So maybe it does have some merit?

All I did was use Maps to edit my home location. I moved the map until my home address showed up at the pin. Now my Pixel 5 is always unlocked at home.

I've done this too and it seems to have made a difference. Let's see if it lasts.

I tried the procedure in that article, and for me it didn't make for any improvement. I am beginning to just give up and realize that smart lock will never work. I really wish Google would adopt the practice that Samsung has that has been mentioned elsewhere and allow me to specify a trusted WiFi network. Oh well. Sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn't.

But doesn't it relock after 4 hours? My biggest complaint is that a lot of times I press the fingerprint reader (which for me is pretty accurate) but it immediately takes me to enter pin screen. For what reason?

It does that on my Pixel 4a and Pixel 6 Pro. It's just how it works. No biggie. I prefer the added security.

It is for security.

Yep. After 4 hours of inactivity Smart Lock requires a PIN or fingerprint unlock. I think its a good idea, and really is no inconvenience.

Why Google can't/won't Smartlock to a trusted WiFi is beyond me. Seems the best way, all the way around. It would make much more sense.

I guess that if the phone is stolen and the perp has sniffed your home wi-fi SSID they could then set the SSID on their own mobile phone wi-fi sharing to be the same and use that to keep the the stolen phone unlocked?
