Smart Lock is not working

You don't need to mess with adaptive battery. WiFi/Bluetooth scanning drains your battery. I can guarantee that wasn't your issue. The only thing you need to touch is the Google Maps app and it's battery setting. Switching it from OPTIMIZED to UNRESTRICTED battery use is all you had to do. If it's working then switch the Google Maps app battery setting back to OPTIMIZED.

I don't understand. If switching to battery unrestricted fixed my issue, why do I want to return to battery adaptive? Why won't the problem return?

BTW, I haven't noticed any big differences in my battery life so far...

If it returns you know what to do now. I switched Google Maps back to optimized. Do as you desire with your phone and it will use up more battery.

I turned WiFi and Bluetooth scanning off but didn't touch the battery setting, and within half an hour Smart Lock started behaving badly again. I turned them both back on and so far, Smart Lock is working better again. I am not sure what to make of that. I will continue to do some experiments.

And then, when I am finally able to get Smart Lock to work, it only works for a little while, then it demands I enter my pin. And then, after I enter my pin? It once again is not working at all.

Smart Lock on this phone absolutely sucks.

Ordinarily I wouldn't care that much. But the FPS is pretty bad, so I'm more interested in keeping this phone unlocked when it's safe to.

Yes I now get both problems too.

UPDATE: Well, I'm disappointed. Any improvements that I was seeing by turning on WiFi and Bluetooth scanning and by setting the Maps app to unrestricted battery have disappeared. Those actions seemed to be helping, but the next day Smart Lock is back to simply not working using a trusted location, namely my home.

Smart Lock works fine using a trusted device, at least with the only trusted device I've tried, which is my car.

Of, it's working again for me too! I thought it improved because I changed a setting. (I turned off all lockscreen notifications.) Glad it's working so well.

Update: Mine is not working at all now, I've turned off trusted places smart lock, it's not worth the bother right now.

UPDATE: I turned Smart Lock Trusted Loaction back on after the mid November update, time will tell if there's any improvement...

Ever since smart lock was introduced in Samsung phones (my 1st was an S3) I never got smart lock working. And I tried. They should hire a smart programmer to program that routine. If I am on a trusted wifi area, then don't lock the phone. As soon as I get out of that area, lock it. I don't think you have to be Einstein to figure that out. Well, not Android programmers.

I've always wished you could do that.

Smart Lock seems to be working a lot better since the Mid-November update. But I'm still watching it to make sure...

All I see here is the same thing I've seen with Smart Lock for years. It just doesn't work man no matter what you do. Can we change the title of this thread to not so smart?

It turns out that my phone's location accuracy was low again, once I calibrated the compass Smart Lock started working again. So maybe the latest update didn't address all of my peeves...

I've always wished you could do that.
We should all put pressure on Google to implement that. This subject is coming up again and again, but they just don't listen. As I said, they can't monetize wifi. Does anyone know an app that does that? I am sure that Google will work its best to restrict that app,if any on the maket. I searched but could not find any.

I have smartlock enabled both for trusted places and trusted devices. In general I have no problems with the fingerprint reader itself, works fine - but - everytime in the morning when I pick up the phone it is locked as it should be. When I press the fingerprint sensor it immediately goes into the password lock screen and I have to enter my code. Do I not have something set up properly?
Best... Steve
This is normal when the phone is not in use for an extended period of time. I get that also with my Samsung phone and have to enter the PIN..
