Smart WiFI issue

I recently updated to Android 9.0.8 and all went well. A couple of weeks later, many other apps updated and for some reason, the automatic/smart wifi feature stopped working. The phone easily connects to networks manually, and I contacted OP support for help. We ended up doing the entire hard reset process but it didn't fix it. Since I don't use social media or gaming apps, all things pointed to Aquamail so I removed and installed Edison Mail in its place. Anyone else ever have this problem and if so, how was it resolved? The phone works great otherwise. Thanks

Did removing Aquamail fix it? If so (which I doubt), it's Aquamail.

If not, it's the phone, probably the firmware. Reflashing it might help.
