smartlock issues

I have my trusted location at home, work, my car... but I still hav eto use fingerprint to unlock it. For example in my car, it says connected to mazda, but I still have to use fingerprint. Why is that?

Am I understanding this "smart lock" feature wrong? I'm supposed to just swipe open my phone right?

You have to unlock first for the smart lock to 'kick in'. It won't do it for a locked device (kinda checking it's really you before leaving the device unlocked).

I've had the same issues with my S10 when connected to my car and smartwatch. Seemed to have started after I upgraded to Android 10.
