Smartphone interest is dying.

As technology advances, the differences in the steps becomes smaller each time.
This is the same for phones as it is for desktop and laptop computers.

I feel like my interest in smartphones is now getting worse - because I spent the most money I've ever spent on a phone when I got the Pixel 2!

However, I do see your point. With the pricetag of smartphones (for the most part) increasing and the differences between iterations shrinking, it's easy to kind of become disenchanted and just sticking with your current device.

I think they are purposefully holding on to a couple of features that are out there but not incorporated yet.
Extended range Bluetooth, rolling out 5g capable phones, and folding full screens. That's the black swan trifecta imo for the time being.

My interest is still there, but I am not seeing anything significantly better enough to make me want to shell out $$$ for something new.... shrug. My LGV10 is still going strong. I use UAG cases, glass screen protector and it just keeps on going. I have 4 batteries that I rotate in and out. I buy new ones every 10~12 months for about $12 each.

I've lost interest in the newer offerings. Like some others here, I haven't had a different experience with my last few phones, not enough anyway to make me want to shell out the big $$ some something that will do the same thing my current phone has.

I have the S7, it works great, does everything I want it to do, was cheap. It's durable too...I've dropped it HUNDREDS of times and I have a very slim fit case on it...still in perfect shape. I don't buy into the rugged case thing, I work construction and am much rougher on my phone than most here. It's "small" too, at least compared to the newer slabs that are being manufactured these days.

I'm probably going to go with this phone until it becomes compromised in some fashion.

Sounds like a good system you've got there! The V10 is an awesome phone! I think the entire V line is underrated and excellent.

I think the folks like us who come to the forums are a slightly different breed, we have a deeper interest in smartphones than most and expect more out of them. It seems like the majority of people I come across just want a good quality phone with a good brand name and big screen. They don't seem to care that much about extra features, super high end cameras/specs, or constant updates as long as it has enough memory, and does what they need at a reasonable price. I think that's why Motorola phones have found such a good niche..... they're a recognized name at an affordable price, and do everything most people need.

When folks HERE start complaining about phone prices and lack of innovation and excitement..... especially since we're the ones most likely to pay the higher prices for the "cutting edge" phones, I think that's saying alot about the state of the smart phone industry right now. Phones are too expensive and not offering enough for the price.

It's a fact the marketplace is saturated, and smartphone sales are slowing way down. I highly suspect smartphone manufacturers are going to have to rethink their marketing strategies and definitely pricing, because like in all things the boom has come and gone.

As nice as the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is, it isn't 5G LTE. I think it would be a huge mistake to buy the last great 4G LTE phone.

Next year's Note will be 5G compatible.

But I'm more interested in the Note 12... When 5G should be fairly mainstream.

The 8GB Note 8 is $1629 in 🇨🇦. 🤣

IT'S OVER $1600 in Canada?! That's insane!

Did you mean Note 8 or Note 9?

Anyone getting tired that 99.9% of smartphones produced are slabs? That form factor gets old
