Smh...Samsung STILL hasn't learned their lesson...

From everything I've read, it sounds like the new iPhone will be closer to the Note7 edge screen than the S8. The S8 looks to start curving well before the sides that the S7E and therefore would be less pronounced that the S7E. Think of moving where the S7E screen starts curving and double that distance.
That's what I took away from those renders, anyways.

The curved screens are bigly popular. More people purchased the S7 edge than they did the regular S7. Now I admit, that may have been because of the bigger form factor, the bigger battery, the bigger screen, the edge display, or any combination of those, but the curved screens are here to stay.

Good thing Android offers alternatives if you don't like something. The G6 still has a flat display.

I would like to do that, but the only phone that i see that may be decent is...an Iphone...I mean I looked at LG(boot loading problems) and other phones...and they really aren't that great.

If you really bought all those Samsung phones, and now, after all that time, you're even thinking about an iPhone, then i say GO FOR IT!!! This forum isn't a whine and cheese party.:p

I can only hope that the Note 8 does not come out this way, who knows, maybe it will have a flat screen instead, because if its going to just mimic these two phones, I may have to look into something else.

Rule of thumb with the Note line... look at the S model released earlier that year... the Note will evolve from that.

Note 8 will have a curved screen that will be a little less pronounced than the S8 (like the Note 7 was), no home button, really small bezels and look a hell of a lot like the S8, just with some subtle design changes.

Yep. The Note will take the design of the S-line and refine it, as they always do. However, this year may see some interesting differences with an under the glass FPS, dual lens camera, and Bixby integrated into the S pen functions. I'm so tempted wait for it.

The curved displays models outsell the flat display models from what I have read and heard. But I agree that I would rather have a flat screen model to choose from....

3 Samsung Galaxy in spacd if three years. During that time Note II, S6, S7.

Sams time, iPhone 6S Plus, 5S. Three Android Blackberry models.

Cream of crop: Huawei Mate 9. Nice mix of all and best.

I jump when something like Touch, Fingerprint isn't right. Wireless charging (not big deal faced with USBC super fast charge). Or high res display. Apple vs Android Pay.

When Note 7 fizzled that was when toss up iPhone 7 or _____? Huawei won. iOS has too many pet peeves issues still.

I agree with ts. I REALLY VERY MUCH dislike the curved screen, non-removeable battery, TouchWiz bloat, and the super slow software updates.

It's simple. Marketing.

They (every company) can only do so much so they need to find a gimmick to keep sales strong.

I got the moto Z and they make a big deal how it's the world's thinnest smartphone. I brought it up with my family and friends and the COULD CARE LESS about it. Think about how majority puts thick cases. It seems pointless then.

This is why I hate Apple sometimes they start something that's UNNECESSARY take the removing the 3.5mm headphone jack, one of their reasons besides the BS courage, is to save space. No one is demanding theirs phones to keep getting thinner.

In fact I respected Samsung for making the S7 thicker to put a bigger battery.

It's funny, because when I showed my friends the Moto Z, they were stunned at how thin and light it was and wished their phones were like that.

Meanwhile, I keep thinking that it should've been thicker.....

I have been a big Samsung fan for quite some time. I have owned the S1-4, and the note 1-7. I even stuck by them when they started sealing up the phones..even when they started putting curved screens which I didn't agree with.

Now I see that the S8 is coming out, and I have to say, that I am not impressed. Again, we have a curved screen..why the hell are they doing this? As far as I know, curved screens are not really a sought after thing. Some people like it, some people do not.

But now I saw the design due to some leaked photos, and now the phone is NARROWER, so it has that candy bar shape. Although there are no bezels, the phone is not as wide, making the viewing experience not that great.

At this point, I am stuck on what I want to do. I can only hope that the Note 8 does not come out this way, who knows, maybe it will have a flat screen instead, because if its going to just mimic these two phones, I may have to look into something else.

You don't know why Samsung is doing this???

Firstly they make curved screens because the general public are buying them up like crazy... and they look visually distinctive and people identify them with Samsung.

Second... the screen is taller for the on screen controls.

The note 7 of itself was pretty thin, but with the case on I liked it better for handling, being thicker . I did have it naked a few times just while sitting , was a stunning device

They should've made 1 flat screen and 1 curved... Big screen plus curved screen will make it tough to hold.

People like the curved screen because it looks good and then afterwards they are annoyed by it because it makes the phone awkward to hold and they have the handset all scratched up after a few weeks because screen protectors don't work on it. It's a win-win situation for Samsung, really - they sell a lot of phones and then cash in on screen repairs.

Not one scratch on my S7 Edge.

I agree...the Note line will have lesser edges than the S line. This should mollify the ones who don't like the pronounced curved display of the S while still keeping those who like the curves interested. I don't understand why edge displays should be deal breakers though I suppose it's just a matter of preferences..

It's like anything else. There is nothing Samsung could do to please everyone. There will always be something.

If you don't like curved displays, vote with your wallet and it'll change soon enough.

I believe that the votes are in and the curved displays win. Sales are bigger for the S7 Edge than the S7 and the Note 7 was selling at a record pace until the recall.
