Smiley no use

I just updated my Note 2 to kitkat. I saw emoticons on the messaging system whichis good but then why does it convert to MMS when I use an emoticon? I'm from the Philippines, carriers here has to send us links whenever we send MMS and that's all good for 7hours after that, that message will be deleted. Why can't Samsung just configure the emoticons just like Apple where message composition with emoticons does not convert inyo MMS? Is there any fix for this?
