Hey gang. This one is a bit wierd but I'm hoping you guys can help me out here. My wife has this phone, not me. What we've noticed is that when I send her a text from my Blackberry, the smileys don't display as images, just as text. But when our daughter send her a text from her Droid, the smileys display as images.

So Droid to Droid it displays images, but if the text originates from a different oS it displays as text. Is there a way to fix that? Did we miss a setting or something?

Re: Smileys Don't Display

It's all about format of smileys and how the phone translates them. For example, some phones make a happy face using :) while others use :-), and some others even use  So whatever the case is, Android always includes the nose (-) when sending an emoticon. The only exception being the ":O" face. Hope this helps.

Which texting app are you using?
Just a standard text message, no special app. So just using the phone.

Ok, this one sort of makes sense. For instance, when she sends me a smiley I get the text ":P". My phone uses ":-P" for that smiley. So is there no way to make it interperate it as an image?

One other note, I messed up and put this in the wrong forum. Her phone is the AT&T Inspire 4g. Maybe a mod can move this thread?

I can't do it, but yeah, I guess just send it in the format that the receiver's phone recognizes that smiley.

Sent from my HTC Vivid WCX using Android Central Forums

You may need to download the attachment that goes with the sms program. SMS Pro needs an attachement for the smileys to work.

That's for "emojis", which are a different set of smileys, and Handcent SMS is the same. He's just talking about the stock smileys. :)
