SMS and Data Problems

Over the past few weeks, I have noticed that sms (messages app) and data (from certain apps) get delayed. The only way I can get that info, is to reboot.

Rebooting helps for a while, but the issue happens again

Does this happen on both wi-fi and mobile data? Or in Safe Mode?

Yes, both wifi and cellular. Never tried safe mode.

This happened to me on Christmas and the day after. My messages were delayed by at least 12 hours.

A remote possibility, but maybe Adaptive Battery is a factor? The paragraph below in Italics is from the Adaptive Battery setting screen's info section.

To extend battery life, Adaptive Battery limits battery for infrequently used apps. Your phone will learn how you use apps over time.

Notifications may be delayed for these apps.

I'd imagine, though, that the Messages app is a frequently used app, and thus not fall into the "infrequently" category.

Adaptive Battery has nothing to do with it in my case. My messaging app (Textra) is already excluded from Adaptive Battery. It was a Google Fi issue I had no control over. They've apologized to me for it in the past. Same issue with my Brother, who is on Google Fi, too.

As B. Diddy recommended, try booting your Pixel 3 into Safe Mode to see if those issues persist. Also, try downloading a third party SMS app like Textra to see if the message delay persists.
