there's a lot of threads for this problem in the Thunderbolt forum. Search & you'll find what others have experienced.
*check to make sure you don't have your messaging application to delete all messages after X amount are stored.

then, go here to this Google thread and add/star your complaint about the problem:
Issue 5669 - android - Droid deleting all Messaging/SMS conversation threads at random or triple sending - Android - An Open Handset Alliance Project - Google Project Hosting

This is a known issue for pretty much ALL android phones and it's so pathetic that its been over two years and still no fix!

I remember I had this happen with my original Moto Droid and also with my Droid X although not as much as the Droid. Never had it happen with my Fascinate.

Is this more prevalent with the Thunderbolt? Looking at moving from a Verizon iPhone 4 to a TB but have been stuck on the fence since the TB launch. Reading all of the problems, no matter how small, on this forum has kept me on the fence. I have had ZERO problems with the iP4 so far.

It has happened to me once. Many other people have reported the issue. Who knows how many are reporting to their carriers and not on the internet. Look at the Google link above you will see thousands of people reporting the issue and a bunch with the ThunderBolt. If you value your text messages, back them up. This goes with anything on your phone, computer, etc. Back up.
