I recently had to exchange my handset for a new one due to issues with the Gingerbread to ICS update, as well as what ultimately turned out to be a battery with blown cells. The new handset has ICS as the factory OS, and I have come across one issue that I just cannot seem to resolve.
I previously had Handcent SMS set to use one very loud tone if I got a message from an alert system at work, while all others had a nice quiet tone. So I couldnt sleep through an issue
. However, with new device I have found the the default notification tone set from the OS settings is overriding any other application setting. I have tried multiple times with Handcent and GO SMS, verified default settings, tone is in the Notifications folder, ensured the built in application has no settings active, and that either application I wished to test was the default for use.
In all cases whatever tone that was set from Menu > Settings > Sounds is what plays, regardless of how well any tests work from within the application itself. Which means my only option currently is to have the loud tone set from this location, resulting in all emails, SMS, and MMS messages being able to wake me up. Even if its just some dumb thing from YouTube at 2am going "We think you might like this!"
Does anyone know how to fix this? At this point I am actually willing to expend the effort to root my phone if it will let me create a file that says "No matter what you think you are supposed to do, you WILL use this application settings" (provided I can code such a file, while I work within Linux daily I am a far cry from being a coder)
Thank you for any assistance.
