Sms not working 7 Pro

I've recently given my 7 Pro to my son and he's really happy with it apart from a minor problem, he can't send or receive sms messages. RCS is working fine but he needs sms for certain banking apps that send a one time password. He contacted his provider EE (T MOBILE UK) and they sent over the air settings which worked for a short time but it's now reverted back to no sms, even though he's changed nothing himself... Can anyone help? Thanks, David.

Go to Settings>Apps>Special App Access>Premium SMS Access. Is Messages listed there?

No, nothing there.... Just this message...

"no installed apps have requested Premium sms access"

I'm not sure if this is related, but look in the Google Messages app settings, tap Advanced, and make sure Service Messages is toggled on.

Just curious, can you show a screenshot of the Advanced settings menu in Google Messages? Make sure to block out any identifying info first, like your phone number.

Try clearing data and Force stop the message app see if maybe glitch if not then uninstall the update to it see if it works on the previous version maybe an update broke it .

That is a frustrating issue! Can he receive calls? Are you all on the same plan?

Ok, so he's downloaded Textra to try.. He can send texts to me(8 pro) and his Missus (iPhone) and we receive them but we can't reply. It seems like it may have something to do with this sms premium setting....

Yes, calls are fine to everyone, rcs works too but it's just the sms he needs for these one time password/key. He put his sim back in his Mate 20 pro and all works well...

This is my 8 pro, my Son's is the same... We're on EE, Tmobile UK... 2049762542.jpg

Hmm, it must be a carrier or regional thing. I have a Service Messages toggle between "Get SMS delivery reports" and "Show iPhone reactions as emoji."

Have asked him to phone his carrier and see if they can activate the premium sms access feature and hope that might work...

It's too bad you didn't try clearing data then force stop the message app
