Sms Notification icons

One thing I LOVED about Android was the ability to use third party sms apps that would allow me to assign different notification icons to different contacts. That changed with one an update a few years ago. I have used Textra but everyone so often it seems to freeze and I miss several text messages it lasts for a few hours. I tried Handcent and same thing. Two questions:
1. Is there a other app that will allow that?
2. If I use blackberry hub would that allow me to do that?
