SMS notification vibrate settings

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this but is there anyway to change the pattern of the vibration just for SMS notifications? Right now it has the same pattern as an email and I can't tell them apart. I know I can download Handcent and it will do it but I don't want to lose the emergency alerts, even though they function sporadically. I don't really have a complaint with the factory messaging app beyond this and it seems like this would be something fairly easy to change.

As far as I know, you cannot change this without using a third party SMS app. Using another app, though, does not mean you will lose your emergency alerts from the stock app. You will still get those unless you disable them specifically.

I used Handcent in the past and to keep from having duplicate notifications I had to disable the notifications on the factory app. When I did that the emergency alerts stopped coming in. Thanks for the response.
