SMS Preview

Is there a way/app/method to not have an sms message or pop right up on the screen? I'd like it to do like you can do on the phones where it would just pop up "New Message". I know that you can stop sms notifications from coming through all together, but I still want the notifications, but don't want everyone around me to know my business.
