SMS problem w/stock messaging app's emojis on kitkat

Not using Hangouts. I'm using the stock messaging app, and it might be on the other end, but SMS messages to a friend on Sprint are not being received by them. They show as being sent on my end, but friend doesn't get them. If I send a message without an emoji to the same person, even in the same SMS thread, they receive it. It is not just the one friend, at least one other person since I updated to kitkat has mentioned they didn't receive texts from me.

Obviously it might be on their end, but I also noticed that my emojis aren't being sent to SMS messsages to Google Voice as well . Those message at least make it through to GV, but the recipient only sees question marks for the emoji.

Anybody else having similar issues?

Yup, exactly the same problem here. They either don't arrive, or they arrive hours later.

This could explain alot. I enabled hangouts and then reverted back to default SMS and enabled notifications. Just sent a test SMS to see if notifications working and havent received anything.

I've only sent an SMS with the new emojis once, to an iPhone user, and they received it fine. What kind of phones did the recipients have on your failed messages? Maybe try sending it as an MMS?
