I use Google messenger. I've never had any problems with it until now.

I just texted my friend Deb. Selected her name and number from the list. When I hit send it's saying that I'm having a conversation with my friend Travis.

They are not related in any way and have very different area codes.

If I open Samsung messages it shows that the message is with Deb.

It makes no sense.

I cleared cache partition, still showing Travis. Messages app shows Deb, Hangouts shows Deb but no one is responding. I tried to use the stock app but holy cow it's awful. I keep swiping to archive and accidentally call people. Oops. Uninstalled, Using Hangouts for now.

I'm sorry to high jack your thread, but I have a question . With Google messenger do my other contacts have to have it as well ?

I've found nothing but bugs, problems, and general unusability with this app. I want to like it and use it because it looks great but using it on a scale of 1-10, its a -5.

It is a bug. I am experiencing it as well and have found others posting the same issue on different forums. The only option for now is to use another app. I like Google Messenger but I'm now using Textra. It isn't too bad.

Nope, it's just another texting (sms) app. It's what nexus devices have. Uses your phone number. Hangouts is a direct google account messaging but it will also handle sms.

Something else weird about this. Deb replied and we had a conversation (using Hangouts sms) later last night Travis responded as well. So weird!

Hope they fix this.
