SMS Reception Problems

My Droid Turbo 1 has held strong for a long time but recently I've started to have some issues receiving SMS messages. I'm able to send text, send and receive calls, but not receive texts. This issue resolves itself if I turn off the device and then re-insert the sim card, but will then quickly go back to not receiving anything.

The phone is running 6.0.1 and my default text app is Android Messages. Thanks

Try using another app? Check the entire settings menu?

Also, try to replace the SIM Card. Assuming you are on Verizon, it's free. Just walk into a Verizon store, explain the issue and say you want to see if a new SIM will fix the problem. A SIM issue would mean that you'd probably also have issues with calls, voice mails, internet service, etc., but it's worth a try.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I was able to fix the problem by switching back to the default messaging app (not verizon messenger but the other one that came with stock android).

It's annoying that it was such a simple fix, but I still don't understand why my preferred app didn't work. Could it lack read/write permission?
