Snapdragon 810: Worth the wait?

Hello,
I'm looking to upgrade my phone (a Galaxy S2 right now, pretty old), and I'm pretty sure I want the Note 4. However, while its 805 is currently the fastest processor out, next year the 810 will come out with an ARMv8 64-bit architecture and it's supposed to be a very substantial increase, with its Adreno 430 rumored to be 30% faster than the Adreno 420 in the 805. As much as I could use a new phone, is it worth it to wait for a device with a Snapdragon 810?

If you wait, there will always be something coming out that is faster.

If you need a new phone, get one.... you won't be disappointed.

64-bit is going to be significant long-term, so it's definitely nice if you can get it, especially if you're planning to keep it as long as you've kept your S2, but I wouldn't make myself miserable with a device I didn't want to use in the meantime just to get a 64-bit processor.

I'd recommend making your decision based on how much you want to get away from your current phone. If you don't mind sticking with the S2 for another five months, just wait. If you're not liking the S2 anymore, upgrade.

Yeah I mean if you got the S5, you are already skipping two generations, so you will notice a difference.

If you wait until the 810 comes out, the 900 will probably be rumored and you'll want that but the next one will come out, and so on. It will go on forever.

I'd just pick out the best phone for you right now, and upgrade again later, but you should be satisfied now.

Go with the HTC One M8. It's extremely fast and the Sense technology is the best on screen keyboard on the market. The display is perfect size and beautifully crafted. The only downside is the 4mp camera which should be answered pretty soon with the Eye.

I think this is very good advice, you seem to be good at not upgrading impulsively, so getting the first snapdragon 64-bit may be worth the wait. I'm going to wait for it so the oculus well run better, assuming they stick with the note series.

Is there even a noticeable difference between 801 805? I feel like we're reaching a point of diminishing returns

It's not the speed I'd be worried about: that's a dragon you'll never catch. In a year or two, though, 64-bit code will start appearing in firmware and apps, and 32-bit systems will begin to be left behind. That's why I'd recommend waiting, all other things being equal. If you want to upgrade now, though, go for it. It's not a huge deal: just futureproofing.

At this point, short of heavy graphics games and other resource intensive stuff, no, you really won't notice much of a difference. I saw a side by side with the G3 and the G3 Cat6, and while the Cat6 was faster, the difference didn't seem enough to really detect had the phones not been side by side.
