Just wondering, because I wanted to actually test the phone in the store to decide what color I wanted. If I do have to pre-order to keep unlimited data, I will.

YES. Since the actual release date in store will likely be after June 28th. You could check with the Sprint, AT&T or Tmobile stores around you to see if any of them will have any shipments for you to look at before the 28th.

Since the phone probably will not be in stores before the 28th of June the answer is yes.....Go ahead before the 28th to lock it in. Sprint has started shipping theirs. Maybe if you know someone that has Sprint and ordered on you can look at theirs.

Maybe stop by a Sprint store and see if they have display models? But otherwise yes, you have to order before 6/28.

I have the exact same concern. I want to retain my unlimited, but I don't want to preorder without using the thing first. I'm trying to find out if either Sprint or AT&T will have actual working models starting tomorrow so I can get a feel for it.
If I like it, great. If not, I'll take a long hard look at the Rezound (since it's now cheap) and the Galaxy Nexus.
Or I'll do nothing and lose the data.

No, you don't have to worry about it if you are paying retail as you are not changing your contract and using an upgrade you stay on your current plan no matter what. That's what I'm doing as I don't have upgrade available until next year.

No, don't use your phone upgrade after 6/27. Buy your next phone via full retail, ebay, CL, Amazon or any 3rd party site. per 2 verizon reps (6/19). You can continue on month to month unlimited data as well. Hopefully its true.
