So here's the BIG question

Ken relax, you may be right and it may be the phone. or perhaps there are other explanations.
Everyone needs to take a breather.

No one wants to believe when they make a purchase that something is wrong. Some people try to justify their purchase while others want to find something to blame.

But neither is right or wrong.

I choose to believe that there is more to the story then that it just doesnt hold 4g because i am getting faster speed than my friends thunderbolt holding 4g while my Gnex is holding 3g. But all my pages open faster and i download faster so to me there is something else behind all this.

Actually my biggest gripe are the guys (not you) on these forums that bury their head in the sand. It's the old 'mine if fine, but you must be crazy'. Hell, as demonstrated right here, there are some still in denial that VZW even admitted the problem. What can I say? Amazing.

For so long there have been so many in denial that when you're in a solid 4G area, ALL phones will work great. But move into a more marginal area, and that's where you separate the men from the boys. It's only those areas that truly demonstrate the quality of a well-designed radio. But I know that some will still not believe that, and still live in denial.

As I said, the Rezound was blazing fast in the same area while on 4G while the Nexus was very slow on a 3G. So even the 3G was not as fast as it could have been (or should have been).

Such is life.

Ignore the "bars" as an indicator, those mean nothing really. Those can be coded to show full bars all the time. What matters more is the signal strength. What does that show? I just picked up Nexus, I show 2 bars, but signal is showing as -93dBm inside interior room in my house. That's about the same signal as I was getting on my Charge. Waiting for my wife to get home and see what her DroidX shows.

at the end of the day the phone does what i want it to . Its hell of alot faster than all my older phones and i can watch a netflix movie when i want. I can easily practice coding on this phone without any worries of touchwiz or sense getting in the way. and i love my screen for looking at pictures and watching video.

Hopefully they will fix this 4G issue but its working fine for me and i hope they let you guys that are having problems switch to a different phone without much static

But if what VZW is saying is true then even that will not be a good indicator of what is true or not

As I've said before, I could care less about the signal #s or bars. If I have two phones in my hand and one gets solid 4G with very fast speeds and the other, the Nexus, gets only 3G and its speed shows very clearly it's lagging the 4G phone by a wide margin in speed, that's all I need to know.

People can make whatever excuse they'd like, but the results are what they are. Look, this has been widely widely reported by many many many people. Many of these people have had lots of 4G experience like myself (the Nexus is my 4th 4G phone...Nexus, Bionic, Rezound & Charge). Many of us are far from newcomers to this tech and we know a good radio from a bad one. The current iteration of the Nexus radio is not a good one.

Again, if you're in a good solid 4G area, you may never see this issue...but they're there and as soon as you begin traveling to a weaker area, many here will say for the first time "Uh oh".

I have no reception issues whatsoever (24Mbps/12Mbps). If they can make it even better than great. And it's 1000x better than the Sprint Wimax reception I had (5Mbps/2Mbps max) and forget about a signal indoors or in a moving vehicle.

It seems some people have spare time now that they can't whine about the G Nex not being released and they are focusing it on so-called reception "issues".

Oh, and the answer to the "big" question is...get another phone if you have a problem with the G Nex. Please.

Do you live in a area that has solid 4G coverage?

Maybe verizon being so anal did know about the issue but got so much pressure from google and samsung and every phone nerd on the planet that they said screw it and released it anyway . Maybe just maybe thats way you dont see them pushing the GNEX so hard . you have to remember verizon didnt build the nexus nor design the software but they are the ones stuck having to pay techs to trouble shoot the gnex .

It's pretty obvious this was waaaaaaaaay overblown. Her are some facts about my verizon nexus

1. 0 dropped calls so far since day 1

2. Let is crazy fast, faster then my bionic at the same locations using speedtest app. I get 30+ down 15+ up at my girls house as my high. And 8/8 as my low while at work

3. Lte is much more stable on my nexus then my bionic was.

I'm sure others have different results, but all I can say is I'm happy I went from a bionic to resound to the nexus. I'm very happy with it.

There are signal issues with this phone. Some people are burying their heads in the sand. Some people just genuinely live in an area where they have a strong signal and never go far from it.

I have had in my possession the Galaxy Nexus, HTC Rezound, Droid Razr, Droid Bionic, and iPhone 4s. I have tested these phones looking at actual reception, not bars. The dBm are as follows in a 3G only area. Droid Razr > iPhone 4s > Droid Bionic > HTC Rezound > Galaxy Nexus.

Numbers wise the Droid Razr and iPhone 4s are at around 83 dBm, Bionic was at 87 dBm, Rezound 90 dBm, and the Galaxy Nexus would be between 100 - 110 dBm.

These test were all done in the same location, my recliner. I may swing by my local Verizon store tomorrow and pickup another Nexus. There have been SO many people and blogs saying it's not an issue or that it's just an improper display of the signal bars. I am irritated with the misinformation and might do a video showing the true results.

Thanks Ken,
I don't post in forums much. I'm glad people like you do. I'm on my second nexus & am experiencing this issue big time. I live in a supposedly solid 4G area and work in an extended 4G area.

I've been lucky to even get 3G connection at either location. When I am able to even run speedtest, I've had results like 0.11Mbps down and 0.03Mbps up.

The app, open signal, showed me the tower I'm connecting to (about 3/4 mile) from my house. Today I drove to that tower. Around and near the tower, my speedtest results averaged 0.58Mbps down and 0.62Mbps up. I also have the app "no signal alert" & have lost signal completely 207 times since I got this 2cnd nexus. I really really really want this phone to work. I'm very disgusted and am now trying to decide if I should try a third nexus or just get something else.

The second level tech I spoke with at Verizon confirmed my first nexus was set up correctly and declared it DOA (and also confirmed that I do live in a solid 4G area).
I'm calling tech support again tomorrow.
Thanks again for hammering away at this REAL issue. Your words help some us believe we aren't crazy.

As for the call signal I sometimes show no signal icon on my phone. I then call my cell and it rings no issues. More of a software issue on that cause it works all the time for me and no drop calls.

As Verizon said about data It is working fine and is just to perfect so they will dumb it down.

I still have no 4g signal and my wife, who has a tbolt has 3bar 4g signal. I called Verizon, she read back the email she has about Verizon working on a update to fix this issue. Had to escalate to a higher up.

No, my Rezound clearly held on to a very very viable 4G signal where the Nexus couldn't. There is no reason, given the quality of the signal and speed of that signal as shown by the Rezound, that the Nexus should ever have shifted away from 4G. The Rezound blew away my Nexus for speed in those areas because the 4G signal was real, solid and very viable.

If the Nexus switches away from a good 4G signal so easily, then it is flawed and the issue should be addressed. Yes it wasn't the strongest 4G signal that the Rezound was receiving, but the quality was excellent given its behavior. This was not a 'tail end', relatively useless 4G signal, it was still FAR superior to the 3G the Nexus reverted to.

pictures of each device in this area you describe showing speedtest results(with the same server of course) or it didn't happen.

I think what everyone needs to keep in mind is that the issues with this phone are inconsistent. Some people have issues, some don't. It seems to be software based. Those switching ROMs are reporting improvements.

I am one of the lucky ones that isn't having any issues, and am just loving this thing. To those that are, I feel your pain. I had a buggy Bionic for a week. Some people didn't. I sent mine back. I was called a whiner.

If you guys are having issues, and aren't afraid of unlocking and rooting... I say give another ROM and a 4.0.3 radio a chance. Looks like folks are having success that way. Or maybe hang in there until the next update comes out. I mean, we WILL be getting updates.

I feel bad for you guys and gals having issues, but I feel good for me. Not gloating, I've been in your shoes. Just happy I'm not in them now ;)

Good luck guys. May the Schwartz be with you.

So what would you say to me that my Bionic would lose signal constantly on a regular basis, yet in these same areas my Nexus is fine?

Very helpful post. I'm happy YOU'RE having no issues, but have just a bit of respect for those that are. "So called reception issues"? Why don't you talk to VZW who AGREES there are reception issues. Is everyone else wrong and only you are right. Wow! I wish I were as smart as you.

Are you as selfish in all other aspects of your life. Unreal, utterly unreal.
