So how do I get rid of VCast?

I unlocked my bootloader. I believe I rooted correctly (I can see the Superuser app). Yet when I go to uninstall VCast it is STILL greyed out?

How do I get rid of this crap once and for all?

You have to use a file explorer with root functions, like es file explorer, to get down to the system app partition and delete them. If you want to stay on the upgrade path, to 4.0 for example, copy them into a folder on your memory card and put them back when you need to upgrade.

Thank you, that worked perfectly. And saving them in a backup folder instead of uninstalling them is a great idea.

Holy crap, I cant believe how much faster it is. It boots up in only a few seconds now(!) and Launcher Pro is running far smoother. Everything in general is snappier.

If you're rooted, install terminal emulator...run it
type the following
su
busybox mount -o remount,rw /system
mkdir /system/app/Backup
mv /system/app/htc_vmm_hux.apk /system/app/Backup/
mv /system/app/VCASTMusic3_72_vigor_beta.apk /system/app/Backup/
mv /system/app/VCASTVideo5_72_Vigor_Beta.apk /system/app/Backup/
busybox mount -o remount,ro /system
exit
exit

This removes VCAST Video, VCAST Music, and Media Manager.

Is there an .apk dump of all the bloatware? I vaporized mine entirely without backing up.
I've never needed to restore it before, but I might be curious about the official ICS update in the future.

IMO it is likely all that stuff isn't even required for OTA updates. I kept it just in case, but I doubt it would be required. If the app is missing it would probably just replace it with a new copy or something.

I removed the following with no side effects (except one) from the system/app folder:

Anything "VCast" (Music and Video)
VerizonSSOEngine.apk
VerizonWave.apk
VzNAV
VzWBAClient
Vzwapnpermission
VzwLBSPerm
WatchApp.apk
Videosurf.apk
Blockbuster
Google Books
Flikr
Google quick search box
Facebook (yes it will run in the background if you dont remove it)
All HTC Facebook stuff (HtcFacebookChatWidget, HtcFacebookChatWidget, HtcMimWidget, HtcMim)
HtcFootprints and its Widget
HtcTwitter
All stock games
Mail.apk
Slacker Radio

Only side effect is that my lock screen no longer does that cool weather zoom thing. Is that attached to the Footprints APK maybe?

The list is still over at XDA in Scott's CleanTool thread and I still have a list of ALL packages in CSV form.

I'm about to explore the 67 pages for it. Before I do, are they available for download in a .zip or .rar format or anything? I grabbed your list from XDA that had the process names so I could further disable bloat on CleanTool. I only really need it as a "just in case", so a total loss of bloat isn't really a cause for concern.
I'm slightly worried about devs not being able to get Beats working in a AOSP ROM or anything like that, which for me, would be a bummer. I kinda like the Beats equalizer.
Aside from that, I'm ready for vanilla ICS.

I was wrong about the weather thing on my lockscreen...that was apparently unrelated to those APKs I moved. So I had no side effects after all =)

I wouldnt go through all 67 pages. I would go to post #2 where I where I always put useful info in every post I make

As far as Beats / AOSP. I suppose its possible but its a conflict of interest. AOSP as you know stands for Android Open Source Project. Beats is a proprietary code developed by HTC. With AOSP being just that I find it hard to beleive they would start using proprietary code by HTC. I could be wrong on this one... Kinda hope I am but I dont think you will see it officially.

Also, I have a totally off topic question... If you like AOSP and plain Jan vanilla, why did you get the rezound and not the Gal Nex?

Hmm, that kind of sucks, but it looks like you're probably gonna be right on this one.
Also, I picked up the Rezound because I dig the better screen, hardware, and aesthetics of the phone (free iBeats don't hurt, either.) Plus I knew that a new version of Android would need the early adopters to go through all of the bugs. Another plus is that I've dealt with a Fascinate and Charge, so Samsung hasn't really earned my loyalty. I also buy things based mainly on hardware, not software.
But about vanilla Android, I'll always prefer it. Probably because I had it on my OG Droid and that's what I got used to. I do like Sense, don't get me wrong, but ICS has a features that I wouldn't mind having on my Rezound.
If Sense could be lightened and fused with ICS, I'd be happy with that. Actually, if it turned out like your SenseLess ROM, that'd be perfect.

Thats exactly the reason I got it... More so the Processor as 1.5GHZ Dual core! But the screen was the reason.

I was going to say... You may want to check out SenselessROM. A lot of people prefer that to a true vanilla AOSP ROM because it retains the important features of Sense, like pull down stuff, Contact integration wth Social networks, etc but loosk pretty plain. I even themed it to look AOSP in most places. Still new to rezound and could nto get allt he task bar icons the way they should like i did on the Evo 3D. Plus you keep Beats, get TONS of free RAM, incredible bettery life and much more responsive than plain jane VZW Sense.

I agree, it looks great. I hope you'll work on an ICS version in the future as well. I've had literally no issues with all of your tools, so I'd be psyched about that kind of development.

As soon as an ICS RUU is realeased you can count on seeing a full blown ROM within a few hours, lol. Assuming I am not at work
