I dropped my phone on shoulder height.. and after a day, i noticed that theres some unusual colors/hue at the side of my screen... I know that this is a problem but... Does this affect my usage of the phone? Does my phone eventually break if i don't bring it to the repair shop?

Something else could go wrong in the future. The fall may have done more internal damage that you can't see. It may be working now, but with components heating and cooling could make fractures worse and cause other issues to arise.

Wow that's a pretty high drop. If you are seeing colors due to the case being torqued the damage is probably done. You may also be seeing colors due to some minor damage to the LED/LCD/AMOLD screen. Either way you likely will not have screen breakage if it didn't already, but if the case is torqued there may be added pressure on the screen that any further roughage may send it over the edge causing breakage. Also sitting on, or placing it in your pocket could increase the torque depending on a bunch of things. With or without insurance it's not a bad idea to take it in just to have it checked out. If nothing else they should be able to tell you the cause of you discoloration. And as for performance unless there was damage to the digitizer or something was partially unplugged due to the impact I would estimate that the device will continue to function as normal indefinitely. As I said with or without insurance you are still a customer and they will at least evaluate the device for issues and from there you can make educated decisions as to a course of action. What device do you have, by the way?

I got a samsung j5 prime .. and LOL i was using wifi on facebook when i noticed the problem.. but now, I'm using mobile data and it seems the discoloration is gone.. i checked facebook, the edge of the screen.. it's gone.. but still.. I'm still concerned about the discolouration..

If it's gone I wouldn't worry about it - but I'd make sure to always keep it backed up (because if the screen goes and you bring it in for repair, the first thing they'll probably do is a factory reset so that they can't steal any of your data). If the case was torqued for a while after the drop, then relaxed again, the screen will probably last as long as if you hadn't dropped it.

If your display was discolored and is now more or less OK I'm taking a guess that the connector between the display and the motherboard was loosened in that fall. If that's the case then re-seating the connector would fix the issue. But a drop that big could have done something more serious like an intermittent solder joint break. But this is all doom-and-gloom speculation, your phone might be fine (fingers crossed). Do you keep your J5 in a case? That's often a good insulator to protect the phone.

That's a pretty recent model, is it still covered by any kind of warranty?

All of my data are junk, so iguess they wouldn't bother stealing it. Haha
