So I'm confused about widgets.....

So everyone is saying widgets cause battery drain. Is widgets JUST BEING ON THE HOMESCREENS what people are talking about, or do people mean widgets that update in the BACKGROUND cause battery drain? I always just see people say widgets cause battery drain.

I ask because I have a lot of widgets on my screens, but I go to settings and ALWAYS disable the auto-updates and stop anything that stream, like the Shazaam widget that updates popular songs or w/e (except the YouTube and Market widget....those stream to update the pictures they display, correct?)

It is widgets that are always updating that causes the battery drain. I usually set my widgets to update manually or 4-6 hour intervals.
