so it appears the nexus 9 is done with security updates from google. whats next ?

hey all, i have been using my nexus 9 and enjoying the monthly security updates from google until this month (nov 2017). It seems the train ride has stopped and its its fallen off the google supported device page. So whats next for this tablet? are there any external android os installs that are supported or updated? back in the day CyanogenMod mod seemed like a promising one. Anyone else still using their nexus 9 and thinking about flashing it to another distro? if so which one?

I have toyed with looking at backtrack ie kali linux for some pen testing fun.
