Hi folks!

As I'm sure is a common story around these parts, I too have jumped the sinking Blackberry ship in favor of greener, robot-shaped pastures. When I came due for an upgrade, I just couldn't bring myself to buy another Blackberry... my last one (a Bold 9700 with Verizon) was just laggy and terribly slow by the end, mostly due, I imagine, to RIM recommending that i install new versions of their operating system that their older devices can't handle. However, the one upside to being a former Blackberry user is that I have the accompanying grandfathered $30/month unlimited data plan that Verizon used to force all Blackberry users to carry. Great foresight there, Verizon!

Anyways, I was due an upgrade a couple of months ago, just as the preorders for the Galaxy SIII were starting to open up. And I was so impressed with the specs, that I just decided to wait. I got my SIII early last week, and have been getting next-to-nothing done at work since as I try to find my way around Android and the accompanying deluge of available apps. I'm also finding a few (just a few!) things that Android can't do on its own that Blackberry OS could, so I'm hoping I can get some help around the forums here regarding ways to tweak my SIII and get it just how I want it. :)

I'll probably be posting some long, bulleted list of features I'm looking for in the near future, but I doubt an introductory post is the right place for such a thing, so I'll just stop rambling now.

ETA: Actually, I could use advice on which forum would be the best place to ask about a variety of apps and tweaks with varying purposes. I'd rather just make one post with everything I'm searching for, rather than keeping track of threads in various forums. Any suggestions? :)

First of all, Welcome!!! As a former BB user, I totally understand making the transition can seem a lttile cumbersome at first, as Android has a LOT more going on than BB these days. As far as searching for answers about a variety of apps and tweaks, I would first start in the GS3 forums, as these users will have more in common with you, even if your devices are on different carriers. After visiting the GS3 forums, it couldn't hurt to visit the various phone forums. you may find neat apps and tricks that users of your phone haven't discovered yet. But, if you don't find something already in the forums, feel free to start a thread asking for help. ;)

Thanks Mercdroid. I've looked through the forums a fair bit before registering, and been through the "Getting Started" threads as well. They were helpful, but there are still a few things I'm looking for that I haven't seen. My feeling is that some of the things I'm searching may not exist, at least not with all the features I'm looking for, so I'm hoping the forum users may be able to suggest one or more apps that meet my needs. Believe me, I've done a fair amount of searching on my own already! Now I think it's time to crowdsource. :)

Well, at least you tried to look ;) If you ever look around and don't see any threads that could come close to answering your questions, than feel free to start one up bud!! Hope the forums are able to help you as much as they've helped me :p
