I have a routine when getting into the car...phone comes out of my pocket and goes into the cup holder (where it always rides in my car), wallet comes out of pocket and goes into the side compartment on the drivers door. Second nature at this point...but I lost too many dumbphones in similar fashion to the OP back in the day that I learned a while ago not to keep the phone on my person while driving.

A case with a loop would be a good idea. Even just for putting your fingers through when you're picking it up and putting it down.

This is the 1st phone I've ever dropped let alone lost ever since my 1st phone being the Nokia banana phone years ago, I'm not into those leash things or straps, one thing I do know is.... Phone will never get put in hoodie pocket while sitting again, and in the car I'm gonna buy a dock if I like the moto x

Seeing you're getting the moto x, I highly recommend being careful with the screen. I'm on reddit a lot and there's already reports of screens burning in pretty decently. I don't want to scare you or anything, I just wanted to let you know. From experience, I can tell you that burn in sucks. Don't leave it on the same screen for too long.
