On account of the buttons? Because I keep seeing reports that claim the screen is 1280x720 when I swore it was originally stated that the buttons make up the difference to compensate for what you're viewing.

Yes but actual viewing screen is 1280x720
 
1280x800 is used when going full screen with video. I imagine other apps built for 4.0 can also utilize this functionality...

This isn't possible... the "720" dimension refers to the screen's width when viewing it in portrait orientation. This doesn't increase when you play video, the "1280" dimension does.

I stand corrected, you are right. But then is the screen 720 or 800? Because the buttons have no effect on the wifdth dimension of the screen...
 
It's 720. If you discount the space used for icons, it's even less than 720.

1280x800 is the Galaxy Note's.
