So what happens if my HTC One battery goes bad?

Here's the reply I got from HTC.

Dear *removed*,

Thank you for contacting the HTC Technical Support Center in regards to the HTC One enquiry.

We are really glad to hear you are interested on purchasing our last release the HTC One. The warranty that covers your device is for twelve months period in which any manufacture or develop issue can be solved under it. That will be the coverage that HTC as the manufacturer of the device gives. However Verizon may have different policies which can not be explained from our hand. Cameron, we encourage you to reach them and double check with them. The battery inconveniences are mostly covered if after the analysis performed on or RMA Center is discovered that it is a fault on the device it self. That will cover your warranty for certain situations.

To verify the HTC warranty that covers our devices you can visit us at https://support.htc.com/alerts_downloads/en/Warranty_Policy and look for it. If you require further assistance in the near future please contact us through Contact Us or call us at +1-866-449-8358 from 8AM to 1AM, 7 days a week.

Have a nice day,

Sincerely,

Julian

So basically unless your carrier has a different plan(insurance or whatnot), the battery is only warrantied for the first 12 months.

Why be wasteful? Because you can? Wouldn't it be smarter to keep your battery as healthy as you can for as long as you can? You change the oil in your car right? It's the same idea.

It's not wasteful, I recycle all my batteries at the end of their life. It's easy to do considering they're user-replaceable. In comparison, how many sealed/embedded batteries end up in the trash with the entire device?

And after the 12 months?

I do believe that was the op's concern to begin with. I don't know where everyone was getting that the question was if it was covered under warranty to begin with. They asked what to do if AFTER 12 months the battery went out.

And after the 12 months?

You take it to someone who can open the phone.

Just because these phones don't have a easily open back doesn't mean they are sealed forever from the world.. Just means it is a little more inconvenient since you have to take it to someone who can open it.

Just get friends in this business. That's what I did for phone stuff like taking it apart ;).

I know the thread is getting clogged so figured it would just be easier to quote again :).

I just got a reply from HTC. I pressed them what should happen if the battery fails after the 12 month mark. They said they do offer a battery replacement service. You'd have to pay them to replace it - but at least you wouldn't have to purchase a whole new phone.

Or you can get an external battery. There is that option.

But that involves double charging.

Charging once to charge the pack then charge the phone, plus you have to keep them together when you can sinning pop a new battery in and within 30 seconds you're at 100% battery.

He is talking with the HTC One since the person mentioned not being near a source. Wrong time to jump in with that ;)

I didn't even read this thread until now... I'm amazed at the complete ignorance of some people.. How many threads do we need about batteries? Personally I like a sealed battery. Its warrantied as part of the phone.
I don't want to look and feel like a ***** carrying around a spare battery and clipping the back on and off of my plastic phone. My friend broke a piece off the back plate swapping his battery. You are arguing something that won't change. It makes no sense.
Should we argue about Sd cards also while we are at it?

They don't have a removable battery, get over it. Seeing as this is the case, an external battery is a solution. A good one as it can charge multiple devices multiple times...

It sure seems to **** off a lot of people, huh? Maybe HTC should consider that for the next version of the One.

For 12 months. After that you are on your own.

You don't have to. Just get an extended battery. I have never carried around a spare either.

Should we argue about Sd cards also while we are at it?
Why would we do that? I think we can all agree that we are happy not having the option of cheap expandable storage. We have too much freedom in our lives as it is.

This thread has nothing to do with whether sealed batteries or swappable batteries are better, so why is it becoming that? Stop the arguing. The op was given their answer and that's that. This extra negative commentary is uncalled for.

How big is that thing?
It seems impractical to be packing that thing around when a spare battery fits in my wallet.

They can be had in pretty small sizes. Check out anker's Web page. They have a chart with in hand diagrams. Some are half the size of a phone. They make one the size of lipstick. Basically we are talking multiple charges of multiple phones with a device the size of a wallet probably. You won't need a backpack to carry one around.

Edit: I'm here pushing external batteries because using these when you can't get to an outlet will extend the lifespan of your battery, removable or not. They are cheap, compact and multi use. Think about it.

Based on my 2 daughters and 3 sons experience with the iPhone I would have to agree. They are always charging their phones in the afternoon when they come to visit. On a recent vacation my one daughter's iPhone 5 needed charging at about 4pm every day. I know that is anecdotal information but it is odd that 5 people with iPhones have the same battery problems. But then again:

Did you ever think that they have to charge them because they used them? (Of course, asking you to think may be just a bit much)

LOL, they better HOPE it's not their last release.

Glad to hear HTC can replace the battery if it goes bad in the future...like Apple. That means soon enough, Sprint stores will be doing it, and so will random people...like...ME
